I thought I would post this before I screwed it up:D About 95% done. It just needs a bit of fine hand sanding on the blade, guard and handle and then I'll sharpen it (assuming it takes an edge....yipe!) glue it up and pin it:thumbup: Forged 5160 blade, nickel silver guard and pin and lignum vitae handle. The wood will get a couple of shade darker from being exposed to air. Comments and suggestions are welsome.

That is a nice clean design I like. I could own one of those easy, if the sizing was right.

Looks like a good very usable knife to me!

I like that one,Joe. Nice design and all-around useful knife. What is the size?

4 3/4 x 1 1/8 x .190 at the guard, steady taper all the way out. I have another one in Admiral 1080 that is almost exactly the same size ready for HT. (but i stamped the ricasso on the wrong side...lol) It will probably end up with a slightly thicker rounder handle. Haven't decided on the wood yet. Amboyna burl, English walnut or Brazilian rosewood are the leading candidates

Joe, thats a very classy looking knife! I like how the wood grain goes with the flow of the blade. Good job! Lin:)

Thanks, Lin:thumbup: You don't have much of a choice with Lignum if it is cut with the grain...lol. I would like to get some cross cut or end cut sometime because the figure is very consistent from all angles. Those stripes are just as bold on the end of the block as the sides, almost like curly maple.

the butt is good for palm pushing thru ribs and such on deer. the blade is killer. looks great and i like it. size is real good:thumbup:
lignum is very subtle.
nice

Send me an email if you want, I don't know what your asking for price, if there are in my price range or not, I could be interested in either one, I would go burl or walnut

I appreciate the interest, but this one and the 1080 one are for my brothers for a hunting trip to the King Ranch:) I have a burlier one in W2 on the bench that I am making for The Earl of Guilford, who is a closet redneck and custom knife nut, as a thank you gift for renting my parents his farmhouse in Kent the last 2 years, but I'll get the next one going after I get back in town in 2 weeks. If you are interested, you can specify the steel and the handle material. I would probably suggest W2.....i have a LOT of it...lol. I will post pics of the other two as soon as they are suitable for public consumption...lol.

Looks good to me, a very clean, simple design that works well. Good job:thumbup:

Joe
great looking knife
could you tell me what type sand paper grit sequence you use to finish your blade?
thanks, Billy

arrrrrggghhhh!!!!! When I JB welded the guard on, it was a tiny bit off and the JB weld filled the gap, so I have a tiny gap where the handle meets the guard on top. I may have to try Zap-A-Gap and sawdust, but I have to let the sawdust dry so it darkens. Lignum sawdust is almost yellow when it is fresh. I am hand sanding it down to 600 grit. The fit and finish on the guard finger groove is a bit sketchy, but it looks ok. Not bad for a newbie. The W2 fighter is going to turn out better......I think:D As for the sanding sequence, i went to 120 on the grinder and then to 220 shop roll wrapped around a 12 x 1 x 1/4 brass bar. Then on to 440 and 600.......and back to 220 after i sharpened.......and back to 220 to try to get those last scratches.....lol
