ALONE returning on Dec 8!

I think she did a great job, I was a bit surprised, but that said, it is in the story telling, and it seemed more like she was reaching something within rather than a desperation, or getting forced out by the conditions. I'll feel bad for Dave if he wears himself out and has to call it with food still in reserve.

I've been thinking about what you might do to make traps for the geese. hope I never need to find out, but its got me thinking.

Yeah I was bummed, I was kinda rooting for her to win, there's something very likable about her.

She will do well on the talk circuit if she has good organization and such, very well spoken and outgoing.

My wife and I were very surprised that Callie tapped out the last episode. She seemed to be one of the only ones who was relatively thriving in the situation. However, I can't imagine being completely alone for over 2 months and wondering if I might be there for several more. I think the psychological aspect would be grueling for the need to interact with other people. I'm wondering if they'll ever have a show with 10 couples to see how long they would last. At least the psychological element of being alone would be reduced, but it would create a very different dynamic of survival.

I didn't see the past seasons, but have followed this one. Was there more food resources in past seasons? It seems like it really boils down to who can go the longest barely eating before getting down to an unsafe weight.

This location is brutal IMO. Dandelion greens and lichen offer virtually no calories and fish, their primary food, while high in protein, is pretty low in calories as well. At 200-400 calories per fish they would need to be eating 10 fish a day to actually maintain body weight, just for a comparison. At times they are going days without a single fish. No one has been successful in catching birds or mammals.

Starvation is imminent for the remaining contestants and is by far their biggest challenge. Maybe that is the goal of producers so as to limit the duration of the show, because it seems like eating enough in this location is near impossible. What do you guys think?

They have had more consistent food this season it seems. But on other seasons the guys who finished got into good steady food by the end, so that helped. Partly I think duration comes from people having a benchmark of what to try for. In this case they may be pushing harder expecting that there will only be a couple left out at this point.

Starvation is an interesting thing. Most of the research on it has been pretty flawed, so we will see how they go. In some ways the body gets more efficient, and calories are not the only factor.

I'm kind of puzzled by Carleigh. She seems to get the least air time, doesn't seem to show the same struggle as the others. They don't really show her collecting or eating much either. She is always covered so her physical appearance is hard to judge.

Sent via telegraph with the same fingers I use to sip whiskey.

I guess it was Dave that tapped out (or was medically forced to tap out) in the last show. He was sounding rather crazy. I think it was the right call by the show people to tap him out. Three remain, two women and one guy.

Yeah tuff luck for him. His plan was good. I've got food.. I'll eat more. Nope we're pulling you. Guess the producers can't take risks. He didn't that into account

He would have needed more varied nutrients to recover from the point his body was at; his fish wouldn't have done it alone.

If he had eating more along the way rather than trying to keep that reserve, he probably would have been well-enough to keep going a bit longer.

daves mind was gone at that point his good decision making was out the window,he never would have eaten just hoarded food like his mind was telling him to.
starvation is something you can die from while sitting next to a pile of food.
80/60..........he was a goner in the next couple of days

Yeah maybe

The important thing is he didn't wimp out.
He was ready to stay, even though he could have ended up with severe health problems from it.
He was a true champion competitor, and can hold his head high for sure.

This group is lasting a really long time.

I thought Dave was done, when he took that fall on the rocks. When they pulled up his shirt, he looked like a Nazi Death-Camp survivor. Sadly, the right call was made for his well being. I'm rooting for Carleigh, the button-nosed cutie!:encouragement:

Pretty much the way I see it. There was something really wrong going on. Goner = dead..... The show made the right call.

I was wondering about Dave throughout the season because he was only consuming a filet every two days. He had 33 of them stockpiled, but was too weak to do anything. I agree the producers and doctors made the right call because they would have probably found him dead within a week.

Dave had to go. he was way too weak and that was dangerous. I give him the greatest respect, but his mind tricked him. If I get cranky when I skip lunch then I can't fathom 70+ days. couple of things that come to mind from my cozy couch.

Why would you leave a bow unstrung to store it? I'm sure I can find the answer on google, but I'm asking here. I was so pissed he was too weak to string it up and he was close to a game trail and heard a boar. He could've caught a boar.

Would it be better to focus on Dave's method of smoking fish as much as you can to store it for when it starts to get tough? first week would be 3 out of every 5 fish gets smoked and rely of your food you brought in.

Make a game trail map and locate all your possible food sources?

Is it wise to setup 2, maybe 3 camps for accessing your food sources? Dave and Fowler had no fishing luck on their sides. but Megan is really lucky with fishing. which is locale related.

They don't show a lot of hunting, but i would assume that they were going out everyday and searching for signs. Boar was a food source but no luck on Bacon.

On trad bows leaving them strung can cause the limbs to warp or twist. If he can't string it, he can't shoot it.
