Alone Season 2

Homo Poeta, the meaning maker. You take people who live in the completely fabricated backdrop that modern man has forged and place them into pure reality its only a matter of time before they come face to face with the problem of having to create their own world of meaning forged by the raw nature that surround them. No easy task for sombody that wasn't raised in the natural or "real" world. What you are really taking way from people here is culture. Culture is the symbolic "water" they swim in. If you could communicate with a fish the last thing it would know is that it is swimming in water until you took it out, like all of us we don't know that we are swimming in a symbolic water called culture which is the symbolic air we breathe. Take it away and we begin to suffocate.

"Evolution has left man with the greatest burden and challenge; he is born, not into a world, but into a "backdrop", that contains the raw materials for his manipulation and for creation of his own world. By the time the infant-training period is over, almost ALL ANIMAL REACTIVITY has been recast into SYMBOLIC MODES. Hence, Homo Poeta seems indeed the most apt title for the human animal. "

There is only one reality. You can deal with it three ways. Ignore it and attempt to make your own reality, fight reality, or deal with it. One has a better track record than the other two.

I was thinking back to last season, what Allan said "if you have to spend a lot of time with yourself, you better like the company" or something like that. I think that to a large extent, most people just don't have practice with solitude to the degree that folks even 100 years ago did. The advantage we have now is that we can use those times productively, I can spend a lot of a day with a voice in my ear teaching me things. Some folks do not, they simply want to drown out their own thoughts. But I submit that those people would be finding a way to entertain themselves regardless. Humanity is a tribal species, we do our best together. Yes there is an important understanding in what aloneness is, but humans are at our best when together. I'm growing increasingly convinced that a lot of rites of passage were born out of a need to teach youth that they cannot survive alone, but must play their part in the survival of the tribe. I enjoy the fact that I can trade hours of my skills with others who allow me to eat, have a place to live etc. The fact that I enjoy what I do in those traded hours is a bonus. Society is just the tribe on a much larger scale.

Had to catch up on the last couple episodes over the past weekend so avoided the postings until now, seems many have posted about the reasoning why some of those left the show despite relatively "thriving", again it comes down to the level or factor of "unknowns". Those that participate in Naked and Afraid know the timeline, that is a certain date they will be extracted and I would assume they are being compensated well for their 3 weeks of hell/suck, etc. I can certainly reason with Justin's mentality, yes we miss loved ones but if our time is consumed with constructive activities it certainly keeps our mind focused. Its a mindset you have to foster in the military especially with younger or inexperienced service members that have never deployed prior, boredom leads to depression, anxiety and so on so keeping active on tasks, missions, etc. is essential.

I've read that Naked and Afraid contestants are given no compensation at all. They are hoping to make money as instructors later, I suppose. I have yet to see any that I'd trust to take my dog for a walk. That's how poor their judgement is. A couple of the Alone people are better skilled, but few show any real fortitude.

I've several times spent 5 months in a solitary cell. It was preferable to being in the day room with the monkeys. I have no idea why guys "think" being alone is any sort of big deal?

I also have to wonder about the brains of people who actually WANT a fire inside of a tarp shelter! You're just asking to burn holes in yur tarp and maybe wake up with your sleeping bag (or your hair) on fire. A primitive shelter for your fire (and v frame for self feeding your logs) and to dry out your wood. Keep it wet or watch it burn! Heat your tarp shelter with large, heated rocks. That's much more effiicient than feeding a fire by hand and you wont need a CO alarm to save your life.

Perhaps people feel being alone is a struggle because for most humans, its unhealthy. I can't speak to your situation, I feel that its repugnant that the Canadian justice system still allowed solitary last I heard. But if you don't feel its a big deal, at least understand that it makes you different from most people.

As for the fires, well they seem to be handling it alright.

A special thanks to all our war veterans on this 4th of July weekend. I'm thankful and grateful for their honorable, respectable sacrifice and service.

Nicole was crying at end of show...sup with that? I guess all the sad/grumpy folks round tawn here just need to eat something judging by the ebb n flow of people's emotions on this show.

Ive noticed that there is far less rain this season compared to last.
It seemed like every episode of last season had a day of rain. That's really helping with keeping fires going and having dry wood.

It was crazy to watch to day counter just keep rolling last night to.
The days went from 39 to 50 in the blink of an eye. It really drives home how monotonous the daily grind is.

Yeah, the weather seems to be soooo much better than last time. Remember how more than one contestant last time celebrated/rejoiced when the sun came out closer to the end of the season? I wonder if it's happening this time or not. Being deprived of sun sucks.

Being alone without a doubt isn't unhealthy. 'Self-assurance coming from society' is a clear oxy moron in itself. Letting the Ego go unchecked - that's the realistic unhealthy truth driving the distortion of nations.

Heeding the dharmas, sris and all the bhagavan is wise.

Another great episode. No one has really managed to get into a position where food is stable enough that they will walk away with it. All it will take is a few days of wind to keep Jose and David from the fish, and I feel like Nicole has run out of luck with her spot. Now that the seals have patterned her, it will be hard for her to pick up the remaining scraps. And then what? Larry has a tough spot as well, no surplus, and a hard spot to gather from. Really tough to see what happened to David there, at least he will have some backups, but its still a big hit! I would have probably tried to rescue it, and likely spent too much time in the water (even though I swim like a brick). Interested to see how far past Allan's time we get this round.

I agree and it also reflects the nature of trying to put an interesting show together from all the digital video they receive. But, the show apparently has a fixed number of shows budgeted and they need to cover the time span and still try to make it interesting.

13 episodes this season, so 3 more to go. The way Larry was describing the boredom last episode it seems as if he will be the next to tap. David might be in some trouble getting wet and losing his heavy fishing line, but seems resourceful enough and stubborn enough to carry on. Jose is getting desperate eating the clams with possible red tide next episode. He does seem to know what he is doing and his risks surely seem more risky to us then him. Nicole is just now starting to have food troubles, and those troubles are probably being overblown with how well she knows the plants in the area. My guess is it goes Larry next to tap, then Jose, then David with Nicole winning it. Wouldn't be surprised with any of the remaining participants winning it.

We should now start to see weather like last year's show had. They were dropped off after the salmon run last year and that has now just ended this season.

Nicole will figure out her food troubles; also, out of her 10 items - two of her picks are EMERGENCY RATIONS. She is a small person and does not need to consume as much food as Dave, Larry, and Jose'.

As Capt. Caveman mentioned above ^^^^ the weather is ready to turn for the worse.

Chris, I've seen a fixed blade and a modified Leatherman. No second fixed blade.

Maybe he made one?😄

Capt. Caveman: I sure hope you're wrong. I'd hate to see Larry go, and Dave as well. To me Jose and Nicole live good lives already. Larry and Dave both live more common lives and so they struggle. I'm hoping either one wins over the other two. I like Nicole but she has had it way too easy and has not been tested enough for me to root for her. A gut feeling tells me there may have been some sort of kink thrown into the selection process for drop off spots. My suspicious ways often ruffles feathers. I'm use to questioning everything and if it ruffles feather then so be it. I rather be wrong than not to question at all. I know some of you have thought about it. Right or wrong I'm the guy who says what many are thinking. However, I really do try to be fair in my thought process, and with that, there's no room for political correctness when I do. :)

In reference to the deeper conversations going on here. IMHO there is indeed only one reality, and only one truth for that matter - that's for sure. The reality of this society is living life under corruption. Being misled through lies and illusions on a daily basis and our belief in this without questioning is the result of lives lived that do not come natural by any means. Today there are so many quick fixes (pills, etc.) that never truly fix anything but only serve to keep us in check to accept this life and the encapsulating life we choose to accept as real. They are not, not with all the lies that mislead and rule those realms. We cannot have it both ways.

And as a result we never question this system because it's not normal. Nor is it widely accepted by most but heavily frowned upon. So we remain here contributing by remaining "productive" and in good light with this system and everyone involved. This pretty much is considered peer pressure in my book. And then there is nature. It has no lies or hidden agendas. It is what it is. It is Real and it is the only place where truth resides. It is unfettered and the complete opposite of what is, in reality, corruption by design.

Two way different lifestyles and living in one for far too long disturbs us in ways so profound that we no longer understand the most basic of things like who we are, what is real and what is not. I believe this show, especially the first season, touches us in ways that makes us at least ask Why(?) to those thought provoking situations. If you're one of many who have lost touch with the natural way you will become confused with these simplest of things. That's just the way I see it. Words are by nature are expressions of ego and thus corrupt as well, so, if we want truth there's only one truth to be had and we must look to nature to find it and our real selves.
