Alone-What 10 things would you pick to bring with you?

Been thinking about the sleeping bags. Normally you'd want about 10 below the rating for anomalies and long days, but on your own you might want to have 20 extra degrees in case of lack of food or sickness. Temperatures seem to rarely go below -5C there so a good bag in the -20 to -25C range would probably be good. I didn't realise how warm it is there, it's like permanent spring.

It is to a point, but the winter storms that hit the coast are nasty freezing rain monsters, and high humidity. I'd figure that -20/-25C gear that handled the prairies would handle that pretty well. Not too many other places run you the risk of a heavy winter rain storm, I'm sure you've seen what ice can do to trees. Wouldn't be fun!

Yes, we get the ice storms over here but it is not quite so warm. Very difficult weather to prepare for. I see now that several of them chose a bivy bag, probably a good idea with that weather, but I'm not used to that extreme humidity to know for sure.

A little alcohol might have helped Sam that last week to cope with things... medicinal use only of course. But it would count as one of the 10 items. I see no problem in real life where you aren't limited to 10 items or your only limitation is what you are willing to carry or keep on hand such as in a base cam. You can clean wounds with it, burn it, or drink it.

All interesting lists, but I'd want a very large bar of soap also. For obvious hygienic reasons, and the psychological lift of scrubbing days worth of funk off.

What would you give up for that bar of soap? I can't imagine washing in salt water..... I would itch all the time.

I'm not a fan of coffee. It's so overrated. And if I've got soup mix I'd rather use the boiling water on that then coffee in any situation

Ok, I got an out of the box suggestion. Boredom and depression was a big factor, why not take a copy of your favorite religious/inspiring text to read and inspire you during lonely or hard times. "Man can not live on bread alone."
