Alright, alox or plastic? Black, white, red, blue, light blue, dark blue, if it's alox, I will go for it, regardless of the model. I don't even glance at the red plastic models anymore, the last black plastic model I had was a Farmer, that went to my cousin.

My meager collection consists of a black Alox pioneer, white alox cadet, white alox officer, blue alox cadet and blue alox farmer.

Can't post a poll, or post pics. Post your alox collections, your plastic handled collections etc.

Did they make an Alox Swisschamp?

of course the alox feels better and looks perdy'er and you know it's gonna last like "forever" but I sure like having the tweezers, toothpick and pen.

red cellidor (plastic) is so traditional, so familiar to many of us, I'm just glad they have them both (salute) cause truly I like and want both ;)

I have and still buy both SAKs with alox and cellidor scales. An advantage of the cellidor handles is that they can contain tools like toothpick, tweezers, pen, pin and LED light. The alox scales are more durable and very strong, but I haven't broken a cellidor scale yet in all those years that I carry SAKs.

For me, it greatly depends on the model.

If it has enough bulk with the alox scales, Okay. Like my old Wenger SI, it feels good with the alox. But when it gets too thin, I don't like it. Like I love my cellidor bantam, it's got some thickness to hang onto with cold/wet hands. But my alox bantam does not get used much except for almost formal dress occasions, where it's nice and flat in light dress trousers.

For my beloved classics, it has to be cellidor. I refuse to leave the toothpick and tweezers behind. Just too darn handy!

I like the Alox look better. But Cellidor for me,I would sorely miss my tweezers and toothpick.

Before you are too quick to disguard the tweezers and toothpick, be advised that either of them can be used to open Smith and Wesson or Peerless handcuffs.

Don't Ask me how I know, I won't tell you!:o

I like them all. The Alox flavors are thin, and have a certain solid feel and heft to them. But you get more actual utility with plastic. I carry each from time to time, but repeatedly end up going back to the Explorer Plus because it packs so much utility in 4 layers - including a pin and ink pen.

My EDC has a pen, pin, tweezers & toothpick - all in the ruby scales. The scales may be a bit scuffed but after being carried every day for 11 years I think they are doing OK.

I have Alox scales on my Farmer & Cadet, black plastic scales on my Trekker & OHT and the traditional red cellidor scales on my Ranger & Explorer - I like 'em all!
For me there is a certain appeal for the red cellidor because they make the SAK more SAK-like, they represent a long tradition and that means something to me.
Traditional or something different? Yep, either way if it is a SAK I'm interested!

I have an alox Soldier that I really like. But overall I prefer a SAK to have tweezers (the toothpick I could take or leave), plus I like the bigger models to have a corkscrew with that little screwdriver. I know the alox models will "last forever," but at the same time, I'm sure a cellidor-handled knife will last for years and years. And given the low initial cost, we're really talking about a few pennies per year. And if you do break a handle, it's quite easy to buy replacement scales.

If the Alox scales on the Cadet were as thick as the Alox scales on the Soldier/Farmer etc, it would be the perfect edc for me. For some reason, the Cadet is just too thin.

I prefer the Alox. The sterling silver is killer too, even if it's a bit of a novelty.

Alox is nice, but Vic plastics are not half bad. In decades I have not needed to replace a celidor scale, and I suspect the newer nylon types, like on the OH Trekker and the "economy" SAKs, are tougher still. Even if broken, they are easily owner replaceable. Seems to me; get what you like and don't be overly concerned about durability. All Vic is good Vic.

I like the Alox SAKs, and have a red Cadet and a Wenger SI, but there is just something about the Red cellidor scales that does it for me. As has been said, they are traditional, as far as SAKs go, and functional, in that thet carry the toothpicks and Tweezers. However, another thing about the plastic scaled SAKs is their weight!! They are so light!! At least the smaller, less layered knives. My Vic Recruit, which is about the same size as a Buck 303, and actually has more blades and functionality then the Buck, weighs SOOOO much less!! I like that. Plus, the plastic handled SAKs will last you just as long as the Alox models. The only difference is, a scale may crack or fall off, in which case, you can buy another set, with a different color if you'd like, and give your SAK a facelift!! BONUS!!

I'm a big Plus scales fan. I kinda like the way the red plastic ages, like a Levi's jeans, every scratch a story. But it would be nice if they could make an Alox Plus scaled Compact or Explorer, one day....

If the Alox scales on the Cadet were as thick as the Alox scales on the Soldier/Farmer etc, it would be the perfect edc for me. For some reason, the Cadet is just too thin.

Wholeheartedly agree! My Cadet only really sees pocket time at church, feels like a stylish letter opener.

Now either my cellidor midnight manager or compact are always on my person. That ink pen is mighty useful in a pinch and the light on the manager sees lots of duty when I don't want to wake the wife in the middle of the night!

even though not look as good, but i do like NYLON... very2 durable and feels more solid than cellidor, and still got the very2 usefull toothpick and tweezer.

most of my collections are cellidor though, and they're fine for EDC... for hard work, i prefer alox or nylon.

right now, my favorit is my light blue florist and white sportsman... they both in nylon.
