How do you guys like those Vic's with the Alox scales. They look pretty tough. I've been thinking about getting a soldier or a pioneer, just wondering what you guys thought of them.

I like 'em. I have the pioneer (if that's the two blade with spear and pen), soldier as well as farmer. They take a great edge, the backsprings are strong and they are very pocketable. (And they are inexpensive.)

I think they're great, tough knives for a very reasonable price. I had a pioneer I carried for years, but I wanted something a bit lighter so I went to a tinker. Now I'm trying out a cadet 2 and love it. Sak's are the yin to the traditionals yang.

Got it in my pocket right now, in fact. The other is in my holster.

I think there some of the best slippies around, maybe not quite as traditional looking but made and priced right.Saks also seem alot less prone to blade wobble in my experiance.

Alox saks are great. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I want any other sak. I've given away my red scaled saks, and now own the Cadet and Wenger Standard Issue, and edc both. SI for work and everyday use, Cadet for dressy pants. They are indeed little tanks, built to work and last. The SI, or Vic Soldier/Pioneers are basically the modern Imperials, Camillus, or Uster Scout knives. I love them.

I also love them, for all the reasons listed above. I am always amazed at the quality you get with these knives, especially considering the price. ZS'07, if you get one and don't like it, you can always send it to me.

Edited to add a pic of two of my faves...

I know where you're comming from man. I picked up a cadet 2 and its bumped the tinker I've had for 20 years, out of my pocket.

I carry a Vic Farmer every time I head out in the woods, or on the water. Been a favorite of mine for a long time.

Many people don't seem to consider SAKs traditional, but they've been around for a while! Well over a hundred years.

Alox SAKs are my favourite outdoors folders, either the Farmer or Electrician plus are always on me when I go outdoors. The smaller 84mm SAKs make excellent city knives, I carry my Alox Cadet when I need something useful yet compact and low key.

I have a Wenger Standard Issue, which has alox frame-scales. The back springs are much snappier than the cellidor models. They also look good and have less likliehood of breaking. Vic even offers some models with red or blue colored alox- cool stuff!

I have a Vic. Soldier, good knife no complaints at all. I dont leave it in the sun, because I would lose it. I keep it in my pocket.

Doesn't Alox get real hot when left inthe sun?

I have no idea..... it's always in my pocket when not in use. I don't do many "experiments" with my knives that are so popular today. I just use them for what they are meant for....... cutting;) :D

I bet it would get hot though.

Can't beat the Alox handled Vics for pocket or keyring carry, I carry a Soldier and a classic in Alox and they're both EDC'd.

Actually about 1890 I think. And their's still an Elsner at the head of the table! The only other knife company I know if that old and still a family owned operation is Opinel.

I'm a confirmed SAK-aholic, mostly celidors but my Alox selection is growing. My Alox Pioneer and Farmer are tough as nails. I've been EDCing my Farmer for about 3 months now, great knife! But yesterday i got two little Gray Victorinox boxes in the mail. Two limited edition Alox Lumberjacks!THANKS SWISSBIANCO!
Methinks one of those will be displacing my Farmer for a while!
:)

Thanks to all of you, I now can't decide whether I want an Electrician or a Pioneer Rancher. Thanks. Thanks a bunch. ;)
