Alpha Folding Hunter question (warranty wise)

My Alpha Hunter folder was my first "hunting" knife. It has performed admirably when field dressing and skinning deer.

I used my Spyderco Sharpmaker to put a scary sharp edge on it.

I just took some brasso to the stains. A little light polishing and all gone.
Thanks, LFH! My Alpha Folding Hunters now look as good as new!

Thanks to everyone who has replied!

Glad to have helped Geo.

To chime in a latest with my rosewood handled ats34 user, I scored a set of the rubber grips still in the Buck packaging. The kit has brand new screws and thanks to this thread, I recogonized that gunk on the threads as blue locktite.

The rosewood to rubber change over was a snap. Was surprised to see some tarnishing on the slabs under the handles tho. I didn't spend a lot of time trying to remove it. Just stuck the new rubber handles on and went on...

I bought this one as a user and it had been used. The rosewood grips had some skuffing. I have it on the project list to refinish the rosewoods like I would refinish an old beat up gunstock. One of those there roundtuits....

What is the carrying systems on the knives pictured above? Obviously some kind of braid, but is this something you do yourselves or buy? What is it's function? I think it looks great!

The Alpha in its factory form comes with either a burgundy leather sheath for the one with rosewood handles or a nylon codura sheath for the one with the rubber handles. Both sheaths can be worn on a belt in either horizontal or vertical mode.

The lanyards are usually just decorations, but can function as a wrist strap.

The one knife above has been modified with the handles removed and the handle screw studs removed.

My two Alpha 277 folders (I-da-ho and California) with rosewood came with leather. My walnut 279 2003 folder came with genuine corithian nylon. I like the horizontal carry option on the sheath. A 110 will also fit in it with room to spare and still not feel too sloppy.

The lanyard thing is good to have. Put a leather boot string through it and tailor the size of the loop to fit just over your hand onto your wrist. If the knife jumps out while you are cutting wet rope it will at least be attached to your wrist and you won't be fishing for it then spending the day taking sand out of it. :D

Hey Pack Rat...until I read your post I didn't notice that the leather sheaths had the horizontal option. Very well designed.

That one was my edc during hunting season. Hardly knew it was there. Always having to adjust a vertical carry when getting in the truck. If I cam get my leather working friend off his butt, we are going to make up some horizontal carry 110 sheaths designed like the burgundy alpha sheath... Someday, maybe... :grumpy:

I did start a thread about it but have any of you guys ever removed the blade from you Alpha ? i dropped mine in the sand while cutting rope on the beach and had to remove the blade to clean it out properly

I haven't done this on the Alpha as yet, but have gotten the 110's pretty dirty in the past. When I get to hot running water, I just wash the blade under running hot water while working it. Has always washed the grit away. Then a drop or two of sewing maching or 3n1 oil fixes it right up. In some cases I have sprayed it with wd40 and then blow it out with the air compressor. Mainly after cutting roofing paper and the wd40 being needed to clean the tar off the blade.

Did anyone ever conclude brasso was the solution to the stain on the blade? I just put 2 and 2 together with my Mayo TNT. It had similar stains when it arrived in the mail, and I never thought about it until today.

Pack Rat, AKA LFH, found that Brasso worked well on the stains on my Buck Alpha Folding Hunters' blades. It should probably work just as well on your Buck Mayo TNT.
