If anyone wants to know how to do business, look at AKS.

Inventory is continually updated; if you see it, they have it.
They only sell quality materials and products.
They're not trying to sell 10,000 different products, which I'm sure allows them to keep up with inventory more easily. I can't begin to say how frustrating it is to go to a "supplier" only to find that half of what I'm looking for is out of stock.
Their packaging may as well be the gold standard. I'll bet you could run their packages over with the mail truck and everything would still be ok.
Material measurements are accurate. The size you order is the size you get.
Lastly, prices are reasonable.
I really don't know what else they could be doing any better, but I'm sure they'll think of something and start doing it. :D

Is Chuck still associated with the business? I see his name on the posts here.

Thanks for the comments. I read your posts to employees and they appreciate what was written.

We continually try to improve how we do business. Your comments here, at shows and on the telephone give us directions where we need to improve. Some of the improvements that were requested by knifemakers were live inventory, fast shipping, better packaging, actual material dimensions and steel certification information. We have more improvements in work.

I have been stepping back so Jessica & Jon are running more of the business. Playing with the grandkids cuts into my work time. 😉

It takes a bit of wisdom to step back and enjoy family when you are good at something and respected for it.

I think more makers will be concerned with certs in the future. With as hard as we are pushing steel it is important and required for true professionalism. As a inspector I have to reject any work done unless all the certs are provided and all of that has a safety margin built in. It's gotta be a pain when dealing with the small quantities but it's great that the craft is growing in a direction to produce higher quality.
