Hello folks-
I'm thinking of getting a new pack sometime before the spring/summer season hits, to possibly replace my Old Faithful. I've always used a Jansport Ranier external frame pack, and it's served me quite well. I've put it through hell and grew up with it on my back and it's still in good shape. I think, though, that it might be nice to have something a little more sleek and adjustable, and hopefully a little more comfortable. It should be a pack that will get me through those 2-3 day trips, and still be comfy (not overkill) for an overnight. It's also likely going to be on a fairly limited budget, so I'm not looking at things like Kifaru/Gregory/Arc Teryx/etc..
I stopped by Sportsmans Warehouse today to pick up a couple of things and stopped to look at their packs. I noticed their Alps Mountaineering packs, which seemed to be of good construction to me. They are well thought out, with a lot of padding and several points of adjustment. However, I've not really read any reviews of these and don't recall reading a lot about them around here.
One of the models I was looking at was this one:
http://www.alpsmountaineering.com/ALPSMountaineeringCascade.htm
I liked the built in rain cover, the separate area for the sleeping bag, and the ability to remove the top as a fanny pack. Price was around $100.
Anyone have one of their full size, internal packs? How does it fit? Was it easily adjustable? Do you feel like it was a good pack for longer, heavy hauls?
Thanks much for any input, gents-
