alright everybody decide my next kershaw

I tried it, an while it was decent, i prefer assisted still, then again im probably the only one on this site who doesn'tcare for the 0560/1 line

Why is de-assisting so popular? Someone else mentioned that they'd never use a speedsafe knife for self defense. What's the thinking on that? Seems to me that a highly reliable fast opening knife would be the way to go for self defense if there were any doubts that you might need a wrist flick or something to get it open and someone had your arms pinned (or you're having a bad day with arthritis). I know it's more fun without the speedsafe, but that's just playing. It's like preferring a musket to a semiautomatic.

I can't speak to why other people would prefer the manual vs. a Speedsafe, but I like it because of the buttery smooth action. I don't even have to wrist flick it because it's so smooth. Just a simple build up of tension in your thumb and you're good.

The only thing I can come up with about not using the Speedsafe in self-defense is the fear of having the torsion bar break or something along the lines as that. I know that some people prefer manual flipper knives because they don't have to worry about an extra part of the knife breaking. They look at it as another possible way for the knife to fail.

Alright done! Just ordered my first (and probably nott last) Blur from Dave! it is the OLBLK, to match my leek, hopefully i will enjoy it as much as everyone else enjoys theirs!! Thanks guys!

Thanks. I enjoy flipping my 561, a CRKT Eros, and a couple of Zing blems, but the only one of those that I'd trust to open with one flip every time are the cheapo Zings. And their pivots are smoother than either the 561 or the Eros. The Eros is extremely sensitive to gripping the scales which in an adrenaline filled situation could mean that I couldn't get the knife open at all. It's a very strong detente. I can open it fine if my hand is relaxed and until I figured out what was going on I was mystified that it opened easier with my left than my right hand. Well, that's because my left is weaker so I can't squeeze it as hard! I'm getting so I can flip the 561 open even if it's pointed upward but it's not every time. I can almost always open it with the thumb stud, but I have some arthritis there and wouldn't trust it. I'll probably carry my Blur S30V for SD. Can't wait for the new 566 to come out, and I'm *not* going to de-assist it unless I get much better at opening or there's some kind of legal constraint against assisted openers. (I wonder if there's any kind of handicap loophole for autos?)

BTW, the only reason I'm considering those little knives for SD is that the laws in DC are ambiguous as to blade length limits. I'm pretty sure a 3.5 inch is strictly legal but the police there will probably freak with anything over 3 inches, legal or not. In fact, I'm thinking about going with a pen.

I ordered the same knife from Dave on Friday. Anxious to see how it compares to the CF blur and to see how the blur is deassisted. I don't want to take the CF blur apart unless I am sure I want it to stay that way so I am getting my feet wet on a cheaper knife.

I was going to warn you not to buy a Blur. Once you do, you're going to need 2 or 3 more. The CF is a little slippery in the hand when my fingers are dry (which is almost all the time in Phoenix), so one of the textured ones gets carried more often. I haven't de-assisted mine yet, but I keep hearing about it; going to have to try it.

I have two Blurs. I got the first one after reading a Mitch Rapp novel where he kills an assassin with a Blur and then had to get the S30V. So it's all Vince Flynn's fault.

Blur in S30V blem from kershawguy! Picked one up from him a few months ago and can't put it down. De-assisted of course.

Why "of course?" I'm curious about this. About half my knives are unassisted and they're the least reliable openers, other than the Zing Tantos which are both blems. The Skyline is pretty dependable, but neither of my knives with bearing pivots are reliable openers. It's more fun, but is it more practical?

You have to have at least one blur in your collection, although I do prefer the knockout that is roughly the same size.

Your 0560 is the first one that I have read that has a problem flipping open as you describe it. You should send it in to customer service for an adjustment. This model is known to be a very smooth fast flipper. Yours is an exception. If you owned mine your reports on these wouldn't be misleading folks on how good the kvt system is.

Blur, Knockout, ZT 0350 just start your list now because you know your going to want more.
