Alright I need a sharpener

I just watched your 5 part series on sharpening a CS tanto with the EdgePro Apex. Man is that a cool sharpening machine.

How come when it got to the highest stone and tapes there was some weird squawking sound? Like fingers on a chalkboard or something. It didn't make those sounds on the lower grit stones. I thought it would get quieter as you moved up.

How come some of your knives look like mirrors for the Apex? Do you strop or is there a higher tape that you use. It was impossible to see a closeup of the edge becasue of video and movement.

Great videos!

He better not screw that one up - I'm still waiting for the video to come up. I can't see it yet. Is it done?

It was the rod, I needed to put some soap on it to lube it. :D

Would recommend a Spyderco Sharpmaker. You can get the diamond rods and ultra fine rods if you need them later with a phone call and credit card. This system will get your knives really sharp in short order and is less than 1/2 the price of the edgepro (which I am sure is a great tool). The learning curve on the sharpmaker is short and the DVD is great. The system is a no brainer. It is also something you can take on a camping trip (not backpacking) as it does not weigh a lot or take up a lot of space. You will get your knives REALLY sharp with this. Will it be as sharp as using custom whetstones with 20 years of training sitting on top of Mt. Fuji? Maybe not but you won't be that far off and you will be 20 years younger!! I am sure that doing them by hand is a great skill and a very satisfying. I personally like using the sharpmake a lot and will get you going in the right direction. Later you can buy bench stones and do them by hand if you want. If you screw up the edge you put them back on the sharpmaker since you already know how to use it. IMHO.
