My 560 bit me today:/

I'm a tip up guy, never thought different. That is until today! I carry my knives in my right rear pocket, as the front is occupied by my Kahr. While clipping my keys into my pocket I felt a nice little sting. But how could my keys do that? Well it's the second time my 560 has partially opened in my pocket, and this time it got me. The 560 is the only knife of many to do this to me.

So for now, at least with the 560, it'll be tip down. Score one for the opposition.

I've only had one knife that's opened up on me, and that was my Blur. I just got done de-assisting it and didn't adjust the pivot to find that happy medium. I also carry that tip-up. I think part of the reason was because the thumbstud got caught on the inside of my pants pocket.

If you like tip up right rear pocket carry you could mount the clip like you would for left hand carry so the blade is tucked against the seam of your pocket like it would in your right front pocket. (Having the clip on that side seems more comfortable anyway.)

I consider myself lucky. I have never been cut carrying tip-up. Thats how i prefer my knives to be carried, but it does worry me sometimes when i carry knives with weaker detents or assist mechs. I was carrying my 0301 the other day and was worried the whole day. That things deployment is like a hair trigger on a competition gun, the slightest tap and it fires.

Ive gotten cut times while using err fondling knives but havent yet because of blade opening up in pocket tip up. Im tip up all the way and I suspect that getting gashed wont change that anyway lol. Wonder if your 560 has a weaker detent than normal though.

ok I was wondering about how it opened in his back pocket, so the OP didn't have the blade against the side of the pocket? so the flipper was against the side? Yeah I would put the clip on the other side like you said.

I think I'll try that. I just don't like how the clip feels in the hand with the tip down either.

I also carry most of my knives tip up, but the 560 goes tip down. For a different reason though, I find that a lot of grit gets in the pivot when its in the bottom of my pocket.

I prefer tip-up cary as a general rule, but ONLY if the blade is on the seam side of the pocket. Otherwise you are just asking to get bit like you did. I will note, however, that my 0560 has come open slightly on two occasions while in my pocket, and one of those times I put a small cut in my pants. :o My detent is not terribly strong, but I plan to remedy that situation soon! :D

I never understood the tip up fetish. My tip ups periodically open when the thumb stud catches on my pocket, kinda like a wave feature. Tip down makes more sense to me, but then I'm not one of the cool kids.

It takes a crowbar to open my 0561, I can't see how one could possibly open in a pocket on its own.

I've got some old knives without much detent that will open easier. I've never had an incident with tip-up but once when putting one of my older knives back in my pocket the blade opened and cut a 1/2" slit in the material behind the pocket. All of my new knives have much stronger detents and are unlikely to open accidentally.

I prefer tip-down because it is easier for me to pull the knife out and open it, but I now have 2 knives in my EDC that are tip up and I"ve adapted.

I have a slight amount of play in the detent. That, and I think the flipper getting pressed is what's doing it. This is the only knife that's given me problems. I've carried a BM 710 for years tip up, never even knew this could be a problem.

My Zing stabbed me once but in that case, the blade was already slightly out when I stuck it in my pocket. The best comparison I have is that it felt like getting a shot. Sigh... at least my tetanus vaccine is up to date...

Never been cut when carrying a knife tip up by having it come open in my pocket. Then again, I always carry it so that the blade is against the inside seem where it can't open.

Because there were so many people whining that they were tight early on, ZT started making them weaker and now they open too easily imo (which can make it harder to deploy on a flipper).

Yeah, I carried a 710 and 943 the same way (943 is always the back pocket) and never had an issue. The flipper seems to be the root of this issue for tip-up carry.
