Altering a Randall Made Hilt?

I am interested in possibly shortening my Randall Made Model #16-7" SP#1 Special Fighter double hilt. I love the feel of a double hilt, especially on a knife like this, but the hilt may be too long. I like the feel of the SOG Trident's short double hilt. What is the best way to shorten a style #1 Randall Made double hilt?
