Alternate machines for handle sanding?

That other thread made me realize that ( unless I missed it) the smaller machine can’t use small wheels … which is something I use all the time for handles… 😒
Why can't it use small wheels? Won't slow down enough? and how small a wheel do you need?

Honestly if it’s in the budget I’d just get a second 2x72, you’ll be able to use all of the same size belts, I’ve used all of the types of machine’s mentioned, spindle sander, wide belt sanders, 1x30 (belts aren’t cheaper for a 1x30 they are actually quite expensive due to the life of the belt) 2x42, hand held tools like dremel and foredom. Honestly none of them really compare to the 2x72 in versatility, power, and speed of work.

You stuck to length of the belt like a cat to its tail 🤣 Belt length don t make difference . Grinder make difference .......................variable speed, horizontal, vertical, more accessories like small wheel attachment...etc. If you have 2x 42 grinder with all accessories what is advantage of 2x72 grinder ? None ! Saying all that I CAN T make handles anymore without my horizontal 2 x 42 grinder and without my disk sanders , especially the one with soft underlay :)

I would suggest that anyone with a Woodcraft store in or near his hometown check on the Black Friday sale. They are selling the new small size Jet cyclone system as a door-buster for 1/4 the regular price. It includes the cyclone and a 20-gallon tank with view window. This is perfect for wood dust and chips. Price is stupid cheap - $80. I don't know if all woodcraft stores have this on sale, but mine does. I plan on being there 30 minutes before opening to snag one. The sale is "while supply lasts".

Add a cheap 1HP HF blower plus a few hoses and you are sucking up dust. It should not discharge much of anything but air, so you can discharge the output from the blower outside the shop. You can also connect a vacuum hose to the intake port and vacuum the bench and shop.
