Alternate Uses for W&S Equipment (ideas?)

Guitar strings. Go for nickel plated or stainless steel, for obvious reasons. A standard set of six will give you 3 guages to play with, usually 3 plain and 3 wrapped. The ball ends are wrapped on pretty securely, so they could be handy for lots of things. Even the lightest ones are stiff enough to "kink" around themselves if need be.

Guys who know a lot more about snaring than I do, say not to use the wrapped ones for snares, as they hold scent. After reflecting on how grungy they can get after a couple nights playing rockstar, I believe it. Would the cover scents deer hunters use help?

Surgical tubing alternate carry method:

Replace all bungee on all your gear with 1/4 in surgical tubing.

Stretch the tube and thread thin jute twine inside.

Though not quite as durable as bungee, it's still very durable and alot more useful as a drinking straw, shingshot band or spearfishing band (far more powerful than bungee), blowing an ember into flame, plus if you tie the ends, it keeps the twine dry which makes great tinder and general use twine. The twine also would help in case you accidentally cut the tubing on your pack it will still hold the gear in place.

Painters tarp, clear 0.5 mil thickness. A 10x 10 foot section folds up ultra tiny and though it's not very durable, for emergency it is waterproof, good for making water stills (in my experience, you need alot of surface area to get a usable amount of water). Folds smaller than one garbage bag, lots more square footage for the size and weight.

Last item:

use iodine based water purification tablets instead of other types. If you use 10x the standard amt of iodine, it is as good as peroxide on wounds.
