Alternative fishbaits

Grasshoppers work real well for crappies. (found out by neccessity)
There is a lake nearby that the DNR stocks twice a year with 9-10 inch rainbow trout. The first time we went we took corn, salmon eggs, Berkley power bait and meal worms....we didn't catch anything. I watched these two old farts across the lake culling there catch of 5 per day. I snuck up on them and saw they were using mini marshmellows! A small hook on the bottom and 1 or 2 split shot sinkers about 1 to 1 1/2 foot up. The sinkers sink and the marshmellows would float the hook up off the bottom. Whammo!
I went to the store and about an hour later we all 3 had our limit.

I had smoked carp once when I was younger, I ended up barfing it back up:mad::thumbdn:.

I can't blame the carp, I later found out I must be allergic to smoked fish...:)
 
Many people in the US look down on carp. I got a friend who you might say a redneck as they come lol.. When i told him that i eat carp his answer was damn that fish eats garbage...................... My answer was and what do you thing catfish eats lol... Then he tried some of the fish cooked properly... Boy did i get him hooked. Its what you grow up eating.. carp has very tasty white meat the only draw back are the damn bones ... I meet a guy from Scotland while fishing at one of the lakes. Just like us he drove 3 hours to that one lake for the carp. We swaped fish stories all day. The part of Scotland he was from that was the fish to catch and bring home.. I heard many times Trout called the Royal fish. My dad still calls it that.

I took red thread out of the top of my sock and dressed a 1/8 oz lead head jig with it and caught river smallmouths. I'd dumped my kayak floating the river and lost everything but my rod and reel and some jigs in my pocket.It worked pretty well.--KV
 
ive never tryed carp but its fun to bowfish for them. my dad told me he liked them smoked.
 
When I was a kid, I'd shoot a minnow by the bank with my BB gun, use it for bait and catch a small bream. I'd cut that into strips and go fishing. Worked fine.
