I'm looking for spacer material other than vulcanized fiber.I have had reports of the fiber swelling in wet weather.I just ordered some bow building glass from Binghams in red, white and black. It's 2"x72" and 030 thick and about $10. I was told it will finish to a high sheen with no fibers or weave showing.

Have any of you used the bow glass or what other material would you suggest?I have used the black bow glass for spacers in a multi piece hidden tang with good results.

I believe Alpha Knife Supply has some super thin G10 sheets that can be ued for spacers.

Binghams also has phenolic material in 1/16 sizes in 4 colors to use for spacers. Look in your grocery store in the plastic plate area for wild colored plastic plates which can be used for spacer material.

Does the linen phenolic take a high polish on the edge without showing layers or weave?

I use the clear bow glass from Bingham's for bow building. It will finish well, but you need to watch the sharp edges. I have had splinters go through my fingers in the past. I am always sure to handle it very carefully and round the edges well.

I have a machete on the farm that I used cork as the liner for and it has worked well, tough enough and does seem to absorb a bit of the shock from chopping- you may want to try something like this.
