Alternative to F1?

Any of these knives will do.... The buss Boss Street is a F1 on some serious steriods. One of my favorites.

In order

1.) Ontario Shiv <---- best price, great knife!
2.) Busse Boss Street <---- Toughest by far!
3.) Spyderco Bushcraft
4.) BRKT north star.

I just got a WM1, and it's everything that you wanted in your list, except the blade might be a tad short. It weighs almost nothing, and has an excellent geometry.

just get an Izula , the perfect EDC small fixed blade, easy to pocket, neck or belt carry
it is a little smaller than what you asked, but i just had to recommend it, its that good

That Beebe looks like a possible. I have EDC sized Busses and the micarta just makes them too heavy for their size (IMO), I also have a NorthStar- it's a bit longer than I want for this and no guard at all won't let me carry it the way I want (inverted). I also have an Izula- with the best handle wrap I have ever done (not that it's anything special- just came out good for me)- try splitting a double cheeseburger with one!

sodak, you are saying pretty much what I thought. Just how short is it in practice? Could it handle that double cheeseburger without being handle deep in it?

Thanks all- keep 'em coming!

Yes, if you hold the tomatoes!

Gunny is definitely in the running. Specs are almost a twin to the F1 (that's a good thing) but the knife is lighter (even with the micarta handle) with a slightly thinner blade. So far I've only been able to find the ramp less with a black micarta handle. I may keep looking for one with some nice wood. Solid sheath, too. Thanks wildmike.

Zackerty (Ackerman) Serrata

5mm investment cast 440C - blade is broad, so cuts way better than the F1

One of the best FBs there is :)

Your first preference for the Moran drop point is still one of the very best choices, it's perfectly balanced, very light and slices well, it's one of my favourite fixed blades.
If you're interested, I also made a review clip about it, you can see it HERE .

A charming, light, compact, full-tang and affordable alternative is the Boker Plus Dozier Olive (Sometimes it's named Arkansas Traveller), designed by Bob Dozier

Not sure if the lack of soft guard would put you off, but the Bark River Rising Wolf sounds like it might be a good thought. The stock is slightly thinner than the F1's. With the bamboo scales, mine is very light.

Here with the F1. I think the RW is a dealer exclusive, but I believe there is a good selection still out there.

More good suggestions. I like the Rising Wolf, except the handle seems a little short and I think I like the sheath on the Gunny better.

I went to a knife shop today (Grommet Collectables- highly recommended!) and got to handle the Spyderco drop point. The handle was too small for me and seemed a bit awkward feeling. I could see it as a skinner, but not as a utility knife. In spite of their huge selection, I didn't find anything else that really did it for me- I already have too many knives not to be picky! I sent an email to t-k-c about options on the Gunny, and I just noticed a kydex sheath for the F1 on the exchange that might work for me- why isn't 1 ever enough?!

Have you looked into an ESEE-3, hest or izula? All awesome blades at great value and come with very versatile sheaths for edc

Another lighter weight alternative, without a ramp is the BRKT Bravo Necker II. You would need to buy the add on scales. And maybe the KSF sheath.

Nice lightweight option.

Try out the gunny, it is a nifty little knife, but I didn't like the way the handle felt at all. It truly is a scaled down Bravo 1. The Bravo 1 handle felt great, but the gunny didn't feel good at all to me, the countours on the handle did not scale down good. I would say that the Liten bror might work for you. Try the gunny though, if it fits your hand well then it will be a great knife.

Beat me to it. The Rising Wolf jumped to my mind when I read the OP.
