Alternative to Izula

There are alot of how-tos on reprofiling edges in the RAT forums, you may have to dig to find them but they are there.

How about a spyderco swick??

The Swick makes a great neck knife for edc and/or self-defense, but it feels more delicate than the Izula because of the thin tip. I wouldn't mind stabbing the Izula through a wooden door, but I doubt the Swick would survive. The Swick does slice better, but it doesn't come with a sheath, so it may cost more to go with the Swick(did for me).

Welcome to BF. Becker Necker was my first thought too. Maybe a Benchmade Snody Instigator or Buck Hartsook?

When you see how small the Hartsook (a great knife in its own right, but in an entirely smaller class-1.6" blade) actually is, you'll understand that it isn't really a viable substitution.

okay, no snickering! Schrade has a new neck knife in their extreme survival series that pretty closely resembles the izula and is made of 1095. it's a nice little knife and has a pretty good price (around $30). the problem is the sheath. it is kind of bulky and is cut in the shape of brass knucks and has a light built into it. kind of cool, kind of hokey.

Not cheaper, but a decent alternative to the Izula is the Takashi Saji praying mantis (however you say that in japanese) and other small fixed blades from Red Orca and Kanekoma (i hope i spelled that right) I got the Saji knife for 72 incl. shipping. Laminated high carbon steel @~62 HRC takes and holds a great edge. Red Orca's neckers can be had at 50$ and are GREAT but good luck getting one of those if you can't read japanese!

I'd say go with the Kylie when he gets better
