Alternative to Surefire E2e?

I need an alternative to my Surefire E2e. I currently own and carry this for daytime tours (when a flashlight is rarely needed) or as a back-up at night. While (IMHO) it is certainly the best in it's class, I have found that the heat the lamp generates makes it a bit impractical in some situations. My "wish list" would be a flashlight that:

1. Has one or more LED s,
2. Uses one or two AA batteries (which will also make it shirt pocket size)
3. Has a machined aluminum (or alloy) body and is, in general, rugged enough for LE use.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated ---Thanks!!

I will second the Fenix recommendation.

I carry my L1P on me at all times. L2P in the Pack (1 and 2 AA respectively)

Awesome Lights. I don't have the Cree versions (yet!!!) But I really cant see how they would be much better then these!

If you are on the fence, You can borrow my L1P. Email me through the forum.

Once you try it, you will go and get one. ( I want mine back!)

maury, go with the advice above, but also consider the Inova X5T.
I carry this alongside a Surefire E2.

It is the same size as the E2.
It has the some operating system --
rotating tail cap or pushbutton for momentary.

It uses the same batteries as the E2.
In fact, it uses them after the E2 has depleted them!
They will still give about 10 hours of X5T runtime.

The X5T is all but indestructible.

L2D CE from Fenix..HELLA bright for $50
100 lumens out the front, smoking the E2E over all (the E2E will light further)
Dimmable for long run time

I have a Surefire E2e, but I just got a Fenix PD1-CE and I love it. It's an LED light, but it's twice as bright (135 lumens) as the Surefire and lasts 3 times as long with only 1 123A lithium battery. The only concerns you may have is it maybe to small, you have to twist it to turn it off and on, and it has diffrent modes such as normal, high, low, strobe, SOS.

What I really love about it is it comes with a nice little belt holster so I can wear it on my belt and I don't even know it's there.

The new LED lights are spectacular. I don't want modes to cycle through, though. I have a few toys like that, fun, but not for serious business. All I need is a bright light, easy to grip (not TOO small) and easy to operate (button!).

They are out there, but I'm waiting till one really jumps ahead of the pack. Until then, I'll use what i've got now.

We have Princess Auto up here in Canada and they sell cheap tools, surplus, etc. I bought a 1Watt Led flashlight from them a while ago and have been using since with no problems at all. It has a machined aluminum body, rubber gaskets throughout, uses 3 AA batteries, and is super bright. Also has a push button, all this for $15. I also see some Dorcy 3Watt LED lights around, thats one LED bulb rated at 3Watts, so really bright, they are a little bit more at around $50CAN.

Thank you, Esav. I, too, have been looking for a light -- sounds like this is what I need.

E2e on the left, X5 on the right. It's a good combo.

You should take a look at the Mini MagLite for the following reasons

1)it has a 3Watt led which beam can be focus by rotating the head
2)takes two AA batteries
3)constructed of aluminium
4)Water and shock resistant
5)comes in a clam shell pack with holster(saw at home depot apprx $30)
6)an Intellegent Energy Source Mangement which balances optimum brightness with extented battery life
7)Balanced Optics;Don't really know what that mean, but on website
www.maglite.com

I think this is what you're look for and Basically it's a Mini Maglite which has been upgraded with a 3 Watt LED.

just depends on what ya want to use it for.

while the E2e w/as KL1 LED works fine for utility use it is not imho anywhere near bright enough for a tac light, for that ya need a KL4 head and those are 3X as much and almost 4X as bright. the E2e w/a KL4 replicates the L4, which is my fav surefire of all, i even now have a scout light w/a KL4 on my M4.

the fenix lights also are great utility lites but are not suitable for tac use for the simple reason i was trained to flash my light on/off and the fenix isnt set up for that as it cycles thru several different levels of brightness vs just on/off, now if ya could use the clickie to on/off (vs cycling thru the levels) and adjust the levels at the head, that would work, i dont think any do that though, i just got a leef body for my P1D-CE and it cycles thru the levels.

any of the cree equipped fenix lites is a great edc utility lite though, the non cree ones are ok too, but the cree really blows away the std LEDs ie lots lots brighter, my P1D-CE is brighter than my surefire L4 for instance, which is doing something as its a lot smaller lite with 1 batt vs 2.
