Alternative to Surefire E2e?

Honest question: how bright is the Fenix vs. the mini mag, vs. the Surefire?

The Surefire E2e is 65 lumens for about 20 minutes with two CR123A batteries. The Fenix PD1-CE is 135 lumens for about an hour with a single CR123A battery. :)

Not sure about the mini mag.

I need an alternative to my Surefire E2e. I currently own and carry this for daytime tours (when a flashlight is rarely needed) or as a back-up at night. While (IMHO) it is certainly the best in it's class, I have found that the heat the lamp generates makes it a bit impractical in some situations. My "wish list" would be a flashlight that:

1. Has one or more LED s,
2. Uses one or two AA batteries (which will also make it shirt pocket size)
3. Has a machined aluminum (or alloy) body and is, in general, rugged enough for LE use.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated ---Thanks!!

daytime tours, back up lite, sounds more like a tac lite to me.

Whoa... Wow. I guess I need to start looking at Fenix lights more closely than the Surefires then! :D

imho fenix is gonna push SF into a lot of improvements, SF had better be listening anyway as fenix offers a lot of light for the $$.

i still wish they would come out w/a P1D-CE where ya adjust the brightness via turning the head and on/off via a clickie switch, it then could replace my SF L4.

imho for utility use the fenix can not be beat for the $$, they blow other makes completely outta the water, no comparison imho.

I'm a big fan of Nuwai lights, especially the 303x, which is only a little longer and wider than the E2E, is a VERY bright LED, and has a nice 'tactical' feel.

(No, I'm not a mall ninja, I just like a pocket clip and knurled finish on the light for a good grip. :D )

I've owned a number of Nuwai models and they've all been very sturdy; beside, Lighthound has outstanding customer service if I ever did have a problem.

The Fenixes are all great -- I also own several of those -- but lately I've developed a preference for true one-hand-operation lights (i.e., a clicky switch rather than a twisty head like the Fenix P1).

Finally, I've gotten a couple of the new Huntlights from Lighthound and they're also very sturdy, though most are much bigger than the E2E.

(For what it's worth, both the Nuwai and the Huntlights have great reputations on Candlepower Forums.)

Just wanted to let everyone know: decided on a Fenix L2T. From following threads and checking on-line info, this seems like it'll work for me. Also ordered a Civictor V1, just 'cause it looked like something ideal for briefcase or whatever. Orderd them from the Feniz Store and was happy to not only get an immediate confirmation of the order, but a second e-mail letting me know that they had been shipped within a few hours. Not bad!

Thanks to all for the advice!
