alternatives for a buffer

I prefer this over the large stand buffers. It is much safer to use. I use stacked levi material for the buff.

I have a nice video camera, but I like to show things from my perspective.

Interesting point Bill. Although I think the issue is that the camera glasses don't track where your eyes go. Still I'll take what I can get. ;)

There was a knife maker on this forum that was really concerned about the safety of buffing his blades and he used wood screws to hold the blades on a piece of 2x3 wood and buffed the blade mounted to the wood block one side at a time. I don't do that but I wear a leather apron and move my feet from directly under the buffer. I run a 3450 RPM buffer but use 6 inch or smaller buffing wheel. Having a firm grip and not pushing too hard is very helpful. I use an angle grinder also and wear a leather apron, face shield, and earplugs. It's not much trouble to avoid serious injury if you respect the machines and take a couple precautions in my opinion. Larry

i like my felt belts but still keep my buffs around for the wood handles buffing my buffer is 1750rpm and i liek 6 inch buffs
i like to think that if your at the buffer more then a few sec or you have to lay into it then you have not ssanded fine enough
i try to not use the buffer and its nto all that hard with the style of knives i make

A handful of good points in this video:
