Alternatives for Scrapyard Dog Father LE?

I was salivating over the Dog Father LE.
But when I contacted the company, I learned that the knife is no longer in production.

In fact, only the Scrapazachi and the War Dog were available.

Can anyone here recommend a good alternative?

There's gonna be a few new scrapyards coming in the next few weeks and months if you're the patient type... Other than that, hit the busse/swamprat/scrapyard section of the exchange :)

I have a tan Dog Father (not LE) with Kydex sheath I intended to put on the forum this weekend. I have to take pics. Not sure if this is allowed in general forum ??????? If you are interested let me know.

As JimSocks mentions, a series of very good, "basic" knives will be coming soon from Busse and their Kin (SwampRat, ScrapYard). They'll range from short blades to blades in the 10" size. The larger blades should satisfy your need.

I've handled these knives (all of them) and believe they're worth waiting for.

If you've just got the itch, check out the Exchange here and you'll find something ... but possibly you'll have to pay a bit more. Be sure to check out the informal Busse Price Guide Thread on the Busse sub-forum before making any commitments!

Either find it used or wait for the new 11 series of knives. I have a standard dogfather that I have beat silly over the past year. Just sharpened it for the first time the other day. Its a huge beast but it does things I never knew a knife could do!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, but I really want a shiny finish.
I want a possible intruder to get a very clear picture of what I am waving around so that he can decide to exit my house. Probably through the glass window.
I am aware that black finish is considered more tactical, but I want maximum brown pants factor.

That is certainly the impression that this product makes on me.
It looks utterly hard-core and indestructible.

I think I would like a leather sheath for it though.
What are the standard sheaths like?

There are no standards, but there are quite a few fine gentlemen who can make kydex or leather without any trouble. You said leather and I usually think of Leatherman (that's his screenname on BF), although there are others.

Not as large but the Bull Nose Regulator is a mean machine and tough as a junkyard dog. There are a few out there for a reasonable sum! The armor piercing point is a thing to behold...also, plenty robust at 5/16th thick.

The "standard" nylon sheath that Scrapyard used to sell with it isnt much, but it does Molle onto my backpack and carry well. Leather would look much better. I've debated making kydex for it, but since it stays straped on my pack I'm not too concerned.
I dont use it much anymore unless we are camping/hiking in the winter, then I use it to chop and split larger wood for a bigger, longer lasting fire. During the other 3 seasons I havent really foudn a need for it.
It did go to Deals Gap with me last week to split wood to start the camp fires

Would you say that it could replace my Cold Steel Kukri machete for wood cutting?
That thing came annoyingly dull.

You could always use paint stripper or something similar to strip a coating. Cold Steel has some good offerings for very large blades with satin finishes.

Sure could. At 1/4" thick it splits like a wedge if you baton it. Like I said I use it mainly in the winter to chop larger logs into managable size pieces then baton them in half so we have a larger fire that burns longer thru the night. Otherwise I use it around the house to make kindling for the fire pit in the back yard.
I like the Res-c handle because it soaks up some of the shock, edge retention is good, not as good in my opinion as infi or SR-101, but its a breeze to sharpen. It will rust if neglected, a light oil solves that.
This past winter I got a tiny edge roll batoning thru a frozen log (I mean tiny) in 0 degree weather, otherwise I cant beleive what it stood up to. I did just sharpen it because on the last trip I noticed it was a bit dull trying to shave down a stick to roast the brats and hot dogs. Took me about 45min to get it back to push cutting paper and shaving sharp. considering it was the factory edge and I wanted a slightly different angle it wasnt bad. Touch ups should be very quick and easy

KaBar, and Smith and Wesson make 'em, but not as cheap as CS. But, the CS is made with some good steel, just get a machete sharpener to start with, and finish it up with a Sharpmaker.

Get a gun instead.

I live in the Netherlands. Not a very gun friendly country.

Actually, used to own two guns. But I had to keep them locked up, seperate from the ammo.
This to ensure it will only be used for sports.
After a recent shooting incident (nutbar shot six people with a legal gun) even more rules have been imposed.
I think you now have to leave your gun at the range. Haven't checked, got sick of the whole thing some years ago.

If I lived in the states, I'd own a couple of guns.

Ah, I was wondering how to sharpen it.
I've only ever sharpend kitchen knives.

Can you recommend a brand or type machete sharpener?
