alternatives to the crkt hisshou? Looking to get a crkt hisshou before I enlist so ill have it for deployment, plus I need a bit of time to save for it. At 6mm thick it sounds plenty durable for its intended purpose but I was wondering if there were any other alternatives in design to crkt's model. For instance the cold steel dragonfly o tanto, id prefer a guardless version for ease of carry. Anyone familiar with any other reasonably priced knives of this style? (Reasonably priced = < $350)

are you planning to carry a foot-long blade on your person? If so, then maybe you can find one of CS tanto magnums at around that length for right around 300

I snagged a CS master tanto, with very thick san mai blade, and a solid 6 or 7" blade for under 200 off "the center"

If it were me I'd wait until after I was through basic and with some guys that had been downrange before shelling out for a deployment knife. You can learn a lot about which knives to carry by listening to the voice of experience. That and it might save you some grief if you don't show up right away with the fancy, expensive knife.

Get a hissatsu for $50 and be done with it. If you are allowed to carry a killing knife by your unit CO, that's about all you would need.

In the services, the Gub'mint will give you plenty of expensive toys to break, no need to bring your own.
