Alton Brown & Outcast

The fact that a high profile, and generally well liked person, carries and uses knives publicly in what most people would think of as a day to day situation is good for everyone involved in the knife industry from the manufacturers to the end user.

The additional fact that he isn't just pulling out a very small slippie is a major bonus for everyone who likes carrying larger locking folders.

He's also done shows on how to take care of your kitchen cutlery, and how to choose a cutting board. On Iron Chef he cursed him self for not bringing is pocket knife to the show.

Anyone know what knife he uses at the very beginning of Tender is the Loin 1 (Season 9 Episode 15)? I thought at first it was the Gentleman's folder, but it looks to have multiple blades. Is it a Kershaw?

its a shun higo. check out knifecenter or search here. its a sweeeeet steak knife
like a straight razor

That's what I thought at first, as I've always wanted a Shun Higo, but it just looked to me like the blade was off-center, possibly due to extra blades. But yeah, the Shun Higo is definitely a sweet blade.

i think it just has a huge bolster. but if you check knifecenter's website, in the link before the product details they call it the shun gentleman's folder, and only once you get to the details does it say higo. so you were kinda right all along.

Well, I've known about the Shun Higo being different from the Gentleman's Folder the whole time (both are on my wishlist), I just expected the Higo to be slimmer.

Hm another knife: He wears a neck knife in Top Banana, Season 7 Episode 20. Anyone have any idea of what it is? I don't know of any Kershaw neck knives...

Edit: He also uses a honkin' folding saw.

it could be an open kershaw in a neck sheath, but it doesn't look like a kershaw. just me
