Alton Brown

Yes, Bob Kramer's knives are a major step up for sure!! My humble Landi and Menefee customs work well in my daily kitchen duty. A Kramer is the way to go in the long run.

A true Kramer? Good luck with that. :D

The waiting list is impossibly long....the costs have sky rocketed....and the auctions have become insane.

That said, I bought a custom Kramer a few years back....quadrupled my investment when I sold it after Kramer's became what they are today. It was one of the two best kitchen knives I've ever held....the other I still own and will never part with.

Last I knew a 52100 Kramer was $150 per blade inch and damascus was $300. That was a while ago though and good have gone up for all I know. I paid less than that...a lot less. He routinely auctions one or so off and they fetch tens of thousands of dollars. I believe the one two knife set went for $50,000+

As I recall, there is like a lottery now to get on his list. I'm on the list to get on the list...have been for 3 years. I don't have any expectations of ever getting on the list.

Get one if you can, but good luck. :)

I'm sure that it's only a matter of time before the Kramer bubble bursts. Even though you're on the list in hopes to be on the list, you expect to never get a custom Kramer knife. Now, I'd be sure that if you got a call tomorrow saying that your name was drawn and Bob is ready to make your knife today and it will only cost $4500, you'd jump on that in a heart beat, right? So would everyone else that is continually added to the 'list to be on the list'. I think it's just clever business planning.

It took me a little over a year to move from the " list to get on the list " to the waiting list.... 3 years and still waiting. Watercrawl what brand or custom is the other knife you will never sell ?

Very nice Devin Thomas, here is my HHH with damasteel Bjorkmantwist blade, Randy Jr. twist carbon bolsters, rosewood burl handle and copper pins and liner. A real joy to use.

Love the Bubble Wrap Damascus... Great looking knife... Keeper for sure..... HHH makes great knives. Randy made a carbon 240mm chef with rosewood and copper pins for me.... One of my favorite knives.

Stephen Fowler made me a lovely french pattern chefs knife out of 52100 and it was a steal at about 300, his prices have gone up somewhat but they are still a bargain. Mine is used at home daily and 3 days a week at work.

Devin Thomas custom 240mm gyuto. Bubble Wrap damascus clad over an AEB-L core. Maple burl handle with mokume bolster and mokume bolts.

It's an incredible knife, add to that the personal attachment because of who it's made by, the process by which it came to be, and what it hopefully helped to create.....and it will never leave my side until it is passed on to one of my children.

WANT!! SO MUCH WANT!!!
same to you MT... but that Devin Thomas, holy cow.

I'll trade you a nice Japanese chef's knife and an Oneida vegetable knife AND an Oneida paring knife for any one of those.

Three for one, that's a deal!

I'm sure that it's only a matter of time before the Kramer bubble bursts.

Yeah, you keep waiting for that to happen. Right after the Loveless bubble bursts. He just auctioned off a pair for well over $30K with dozens of bidders. And if you get that call for a Kramer damascus chef knife for $4500 and you don't want it because you think the bubble is bursting, please let me know. Thanks!
