They're special in that they are "Spyderco Classics" no longer in production. ATS55 means that it was among the last aluminum Crickets to be made. If you have one in good condition that you aren't carrying, you can probably find a good home for it, probably for a little more than the going rate for a new lightweight cricket.
Hi scott, i have one with a serrated edge. It really is a great little knife, i was sorry to hear spyderco decided to stop making them and go instead with the carbon fiber handles. I would have liked to obtain a plain edged alumium cricket to keep it company.
I have 2 aluminum Crickets. One has a plain blade and the other is serrated. I carry one of them almost every day. I wish they still made them.

I also have the Aluminum/Plain/GIN-1 Cricket.
I would like to know when these were made (and how many?). The ATS-55 was made after the GIN-1.
The small knife-care guide that sat in the box on my Carbon Fiber one was from 1995. I think these were made before the CF ones? Maybe someone can confirm this?
