Aluminum screw posts for handle

Hello again all. My question today...
Are the aluminum screw posts tough enough to anchor handles? They are available at my local Lowes in any length, and multiple post widths. I get the stainless version from Fasteners.com, but its a real pain paying for shipping all the time, and my budget doesnt allow me to get 100+ at a time.

So...has anyone actually used or tested aluminum screw posts?

I haven't used them on knives but other things and I don't think I'd trust them to hold up well. I'd stick with steel the weight savings etc don't match up with the loss of strength compared to steel.

I think it depends on your overall construction. If you are planning on removable scales, I wouldn't recommend aluminum. I think they would be just fine on a knife assembled with quality epoxy. The mechanical fasteners would be just as strong, if not stronger, than pins as long as you have proper thread engagement and good adhesion of the epoxy.
