Always with you but not around your neck?

I was looking at the Survival Sheath Kit Inspired by Marty Simon thread. I really like the idea of a compact kit that is always on your person.
However, like some other bladeformus members, I can't stand to have anything around my neck.
Does anyone have a way to carry a kit on them, day and night, without having something around your neck?

kevin estela has a kit that he always has in his pocket...alot like an altoids kit but a tad bigger and sturdier case.

you could always lanyard a kit like that to a belt loop, so even if you tumble it won't get lost falling out of the pocket.

i just always have a matchsafe, a bit of cord, and my penknife in my pockets. i started tying a piece of cord to a beltloop and dangling it down the inside of my pantleg after the fashion of a certain gentleman that i met at the CT gathering.

you could have some sort of elastic bands that would stay around your anlke or something that could hold a few key components, that you would leave on 24/7

Thanks Siguy. I was afraid that something on my belt or in my pocket might make some sleeping positions difficult.

I've been playing with this idea recently. In addition to not liking things around my neck, if I am backpacking, I can't really have much threaded onto my belt without it interfering with the pack's hip belt. My PSK has gotten pretty big and I wanted a solution to the question "What if you get seperated from your pack?"

The ideal location, I decided, would be the cargo pockets on my pants. One side will get a Sil Nylon poncho, water bag and map, all folded to comfortable fit the pocket. The other side will get my reworked PSK. I'll abandon the stainless container in favor of something smaller and more flexible. A folder and a Bic in my right pocket (my EDC) and a clip flashlight (PT Attitude) and a SAK in my left front pocket will round out the package.

As long as I don't get seperated from my pants. . .

Depending on the size, you could improvise and make an ankle holster for a small kit. It would be out of the way of hip items, and you’d NEVER leave it behind, or lose it in a fall.

Get a small ( I mean small) pocket knife like a Spyderco ladybug VG 10 and pair it with a BSA hotspark, a Suunto compass keychain and a Fox 40 whistle. This way, you have a knife, firestarter, navigation aid and signal device all on your keys. Simon mentioned my Plano PSK. Here is where you can read about it http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/817077/
