Wow,
I think this is the one that puts me over the top! I hope so, or this post will just be dumb. The rest doesn't really relate to being a senior member, it's just things I've been thinking about as a result of thinking about the big 100.

So anyway, I've been really thinking about customs vs. production, and used/pre-own vs. new. I'm sure many have come to this barrier before me, and many will come after.
I collect (can I call myself that now?) knives (specifically folders) for their mechanical value. Kershaw/Ken Onion Speed Safe, for example. Soon, the new BM Elishewitz Axis Lock, and Kershaw Ken Onion Boa will be out. But there's also the allure of customs. Something handmade by someone who cares as much as I do. I made a mass fixxed blade this summer, and appreciate all that goes into a handmade knife.
But with all these great knives out there, the obviously limiting factor money. I can't afford to pour too much money into knives, so I need to get my moneys worth. I guess I really have to think about why I "collect" these edged tools.

Thanks for reading me thinking out loud. I'm sure many of you have pondered these same questions...most likely all got into customs. Well, I'd love to hear your thoughts on why you/we collect these shaped pieces of metal art.

Nothing else this basic and functional comes in such a variety of shapes and sizes except Man himself. Sometimes when I use a knife I can feel the connection back to the first time a creature on this planet rose up above the animals around him and took the first step towards Reason.
