Am I being dumb?

I know what your saying there. And in any case I think I can stop myself from actually moving on the knife till after I have a job again.

Got nervous when I say how close I was to my goal. Particularly since I usually suck at saving.

Have you had the chance to handle either of the knives in person ?

Nothing sucks more than saving up for something for a long time , getting it and then not liking it as much as you thought you would.

I love the look of the Seb , don't care for the ergonomics of it , I have owned 3 small and about 5 (maybe 6 ) large regular over the years. No one knife suits everyone , so try them out side by side if at all possible.

The Buck Mayo is a worthy option ( in my opinion ).

It sounds like you want the Alias more than the Seb. Everyone(here) has an opinion on knives, including you since you handled both. Will you follow your opinions or others? Get what YOU want.

Lots of good advice. I'm out of work too, so I know how you feel. I would try to distance myself from the issue for a couple of days. Do something or think about something else for a little while. Then come back to it and see how you feel. At some point, you'll know what the right decision is without over-thinking it.

If you are unemployed you should definetely buy the knife cause then you can enjoy the knife more. Also since you don't have a job or income at least you will have the knife.

Just my .02

Yes I handled both knifes at the same time about 8 months ago. I really liked the small sebenza but if I got one I might go with the large for the simple reason that this is South Dakota and there are no issues with blade length.

No I want the Small, yup, defiantly the small. I don’t think I’ll ever need more then 3 inches of blade length.

The only thing I’m not stressing about is the Alias II. Don’t ask me why, cause I couldn’t tell ya. But while the Large/Small/Alias I debate has been raging in my mind for some time. The Alias II doesn’t appeal to me much at all.

Yeah, if I lived in South Dakota I'd get the big ones too. :)

First off you are to be commended for having the will power to save like you do. You should'nt let the indecision bother you as they are both sweet blades. I have found that when I am shopping for a knife and the choices start getting narrow...like down to 2 or 3, then thats when the fun begins, researching reviews, googling the web for info/prices etc. enjoy the pickle your in. As an avid hunter I've realized the the fun is in the hunt not necessarily the killing. You can always start a new envelope for your second choice pick.;)

You can always start a new envelope for your second choice pick.;)

Lol right now I do have a second envelope but the cash there is only to be used if my unemployment benefits run out before I find another job…the good thing is that if I do get another job before those checks stop coming there is already enough in there to buy a few things I’ve been looking at. However like I said that’s a “break glass only in case of emergency” thing.

For almost a year now I’ve been putting money, a few dollars every week in an envelope with Sebenza marked on the front.

I’ve been saving for a Sebenza because that’s the only way I could get the cash for that kind of knife. And because that’s the knife I want…right?

Anyways also for the last year or so I haven’t been able to get the Bradley Alias out of my head. I think that I prefer the blade shape on the Alias, I think I prefer the looks of the Alias, I’ve gotten to handle both and I think I even prefer the ergonomics of the Alias. However I’ve never cut anything with these knives and only got to handle them for a few minutes.

Right now there is enough in that envelope that I’m starting to get more nervous about my choice. I want, I really want a Sebenza. On the other hand that Bradley keeps poking at the back of my mind. Driving bonkers(and that’s not a long drive). I came really close the other day to taking the money that I’ve been saving and getting an Alias. I was only able to stop myself at the last minute.

Anyways am I being dumb? If I do go with the Alias what will I be missing out on? Not having that Sebenza name does bother me but not nearly as much as it did six months ago.

Anyways with not having a job, and how long I’ve been putting cash in that envelope this is turning into a very difficult decision.

Maybe not dumb, but i would rather spend that kind of money on two good knives and a stone or two.

i have only one folding knife i'm more a fixed-blade guy but when i'll buy a quality folder it will be a SEBENZA!

Just wait for that package I sent you and have it tide you over. Every new toy lasts for at least a couple days.

Go for the Sebenza, I've paid as little as $240 for large regulars on ebay and on other forums, knives that seen very little or no use at all. You just have to keep your eyes peeled. You may as well get one because it'll keep nagging at you until you do. I bought one a few years ago and sold it. After going through many different knives after that one I finally realized it was almost the perfect folder for me because it's plain, simple and built very well. I will never sell my large regular.

I have a Seb and an Alias, but would recommend a Benchmade Axis Lock over both of them:
558 Mini RSK Mk1, 710 McHenry & Williams or 943 Osborne.

The best advice I can give is to think it over some more. You've handled both. It seems you have a definite preference. Look at how they felt, how you are going to use it and which one you just like the best.

Some of the biggest mistakes I've made were when I listened to someone else tell me what was best. I've learned lately to closely examine what I'm going to do, how I work, etc, and then decide what is best out of the options that present themselves. Then go for it. My choices are generally NOT in line with the mainstream here, or anywhere else. But you know what? Since I started doing things this way, I haven't regretted a purchase.

I agree with some of the other posts. Get the Sebenza and if you don't like it you can easily sell it and buy an Alias.

Just my opinion, but I would stay the course and keep saving how you've been doing until you are employed. Then it makes sense to me to take the plunge for the Sebenza as it is the hardest to get to the purchasing price. Then you can start saving for an Alias. When you have both you can unload whichever does not do it for you and the decision will be made on use and time in hand, you'll have made your decision with the knowledge of what works best for you.

Consider this, if you take the plunge for the Alias first, how long do you thing you'll go before the Sebenza itch scratches again?
