Am I being picky

Yep, send it in. I bought a custom 110 in stag and wasn't happy because of a couple of gaps between the liners and the scale material. Sent it in to Joe Houser, and Buck wound up sending me a new knife.

Stag, however, is a natural material, and is going to have wide variation in color, grain, etc.
So is black walnut for grips and rifle stocks..
If it 's junk you dont use it.
If stag is inappropriate for a given knife you use it elsewhere or chitcan it.
I saw a " ribbon cutting" signature series 2006, yesterday, at one of Bucks higher volume dealers.
The box was junk and Stevie wonder polished the blade and sharpened it. :grumpy:

I have one of the 124LE's and it is out of proportion with my (6) other 124's
The Stag is good on mine but does show cracks length wise in the stag.
I do not feel it is detriminal to the Stag.I wish that Buck had left the 124 full tang.I am making one of my wooden handle 124's a Stag now.
I have several Stag handle Bucks from the 80's and the Stag is outstanding
compared to my (2) Stag from 2006
1980's Stag Bucks that I own
103,110 (2) 118,119,121, 704 and a Dagger (model # ?) Gerinomo100 th
2006 ,2005 BCCI,124LE
I will buy more ,budget (Wife) allowing.

I forgot (3) 905,s Stag scales
I bought in 1988 one for my Dad,one for my favorite Uncle and of course one for myself. They cost about 1200.00 Bucks for all three if my memory serves me right.I carried mine in Alaska 1995 for 10 days, skinned two Caribou and one Black bear.Would have used it on a Wolverine but my brother miised him.
I do carry it while Cowboy Action Shooting.Sheath is a little worn but the knife still looks new and sharp .

I have just received a new 124LE myself. It is my third 124, I have an old one with black martica Handel and another with a wood Handel. I love my new 124LE because it has a stag Handel. However, what I don't like is that the Handel is to small for the knife!!!!! Look at the pic, this handle is the size of a 119, it's to small for this size of blade. The older 124 is a large knife and the handles are large and wide right down to the Butt. The 124LE looks like a giant with a pea size head or handle in this case, this small handle is a poor fit on this knife....IMO...... I don't have a digital camera to take pic's of the knives together so you can see what I'm ranting about. The knife is to large fit on my scanner.

As far as the grove in your stag handle, I like it!!! No two stag handles are the same, the more bumps and groves in the bark the better. If you intend to use it and get blood and gore on it, those bumps and groves give you a better grip any way....IMHO....

My scanner is now working.....so...here are a few pic's. See the size difference in the older 124 handles as compared to the 124LE. Still love that stag though :D

I love the frontiersman, i have one from the late 80's.
But i also collect bowies in the 9 inch plus blade range so i always found the 124 handle too long for the actual blade length. And while i prefer full tang knives I do also like the regular 119/120 handles. I almost ebayed my 124 but i liked the blade too much so i modded it instead. I rounded the wood grip and shortened the handguard (top and bottom), now it my favorite fixed blade knife!
If they put the 124 back into regular (not limited run) production i will buy another one, regardless of short or long handle!

...Thank my lucky stars I ain't got that "F/B" addiction...I gotta admit that I love the old handle size far better than the new on those 124's...Sure seems like a drastic shortening took place...I'd think the ergonomics would be much worse with the smaller handles...JMHO...

lol you will just give us time :p :D we will break you down :D
and youre exactly right on the handle being out of place

Well i'm going to be honest with you,its not a good looking knife, the handle looks odd,not matching the blade tang and being somewhat offset, and the stag looks like a piece of plastic on that knife,i would send it back to be built the way its supposed to be done,I would not be happy with it either, and it was probably not cheap!
