i got this pretty expensive knife for christmas & to me it is flawed....
all i see are the dark spots

none of my other ebony handles have this except where case fixed my "lanny's clip"
which is a small spot

Hmm...if I got that and the blades were centered, fit was tight, springs were flush and there was no blade play I would easily learn to overlook a few dark spots in the wood. I get really picky about fit/finish but I understand natural handle materials are going to have some variance and won't alway look perfect.

Organic materials are not always going to be perfect and totally consistant in density or coloration. I would actually be concerned if an organic material were totally consistant with no color variation or density suspecting it might be a man made material. Have you applied any Rennaisance wax to the scales yet? The variations might be minimized(note not totally eliminate the variations) by applying a protectant wax on them

ive got 3 bose/case annual knives and this is the 2nd im not happy with......im thinking...NO MAS

plenty of makers on here i can get a perfect knife from

Spots etc in natural materials don't bug me much as long as the blades are centered and play free and everything is tight

I am sure you wont be able to get a perfect knife off a knife-maker for the price of a Case/Bose Collab, what are they..$200?

What I would do is soak the scales in Mineral oil, it wont harm the knife whatsoever, and will only do the scales and knife good, you may get enough penetration of the Mineral Oil in to even out the spots...worth a try.

I would do as suggested, and see if a little bit of oil or renn. wax didn't even things out.

Natural materials are bound to have a little bit of variance in them. The rest of the knife looks dead on.

I'm not sure I'd worry much about it.

If it was only scales "problem" I'd do as Duncan and Andrew suggested, I definitely wouldn't send it to Case as it might get back with other unexpected issues.
For me, nevertheless it is not an issue.

I doubt the manufacturor guaranteed perfection. Nobody should expect it.
From the pics, it looks cosmetic, & may just be oil, as mentioned.
If it is actually a weakness(a soft spot, for instance), send it back.

campbellclanman try $400
its about twicw what the normal case collabs sell for

im going to give the suggestions above a try

Twice the price this year above other years I can understand the initial reaction. Why have these been marked up more this year, anyone know? This will stop me looking at these now at the prices stated. I own seven of the previous knives, I guess I'll be stopping right there........Uggh. :thumbdn:

If a coating of mineral oil does not make it more uniform, I would send it back. Case will make it right. It is not a mass produced knife and it should be perfect. They do look like oil stains to me and hope the mineral oil does the trick. Beautiful looking knife.

Mineral oil is a good suggestion, I bet that will do the trick as it definitely looks like oil spots now that I think about it.
