Am I being too picky with the Adamas? Opinions!

Just opened up the BM Adamas Limited all black, and there seems to be scratches/wear on the liners. Nowhere else, just the extreme outer edges of the liners themselves.

How do other models compare? Im assuming both color variants have the same liners, so let me know if they all look like this or if I just got a lemon. Think the dealer would accept a return? Haven't ever had to deal with the place that WORKS on knives, how are they in terms of CS?

These are just the easiest spots to see, there are smaller ones around the entire liners. No marks inside, just the edges.

"Picky" is a term that will be defined differently for different people. Some would say that if you're gonna use it, it will get marks like that and more and not to worry about it. Others expect a new knife to at least arrive in brand new condition whether marks will eventually happen or not.
If it's bugging you, I would email the dealer with these pictures attached and just say that you are unhappy with the knife you've received because of the marks in the pictures and would like an exchange.

Definitely not a user, it was gonna be a "put away and play every once in a while"
But that's what I figured, ill be sending them an email tomorrow, they blacked out version is now sold out though, might be SOL on this one

I had the same color variation on my black Adamas. Didn't care much as it was made to be used hard.

Mine came with a few small dings along the inside corners of the liners. I'm going to Sharpie them - but I bought mine to carry - everything else on mine is really spot on.

Looks used. I wouldn't like it either. But I'd do what Reeek suggests - Black Sharpie the spots.

kinda makes me hesitant to get any more blacked out BM's, this stuff bugs me

It's a ~$150 hard use knife that is a freaking tank that begs to be used. Please just use it. It is by far the best bang for your buck I have ever seen.

Just tried it on a tiny spot, IMO it makes the thing look terrible. the sharpie is a different shade of black than the liner, its all too obvious that I did it.
Think this one is either going back or gettin sold. Its a shame that it happened, last of the LE run that I could find :(

I'd contact Benchmade's customer service department about it. They'll be able to help you better than the retailer can. Just call them rather than emailing to get a quicker response.

Ill try that tomorrow morning. Any experience with them personally?

The area with the most black missing is definitely too much IMO. The other bits may be marginal. I think to some degree you're going to see a speck here and there that shines through on most of the blacked out liners. Some things are hard to avoid on production pieces. However, Benchmade's customer service has been great to me. I recommend you call them about your issue. You may simply need to send it in and they can swap out the liners.

Yup! I only ever had to contact them for a pocket clip and had trouble getting through to them by email, but received prompt service when I called. They immediately sent me a fresh pocket clip with a set of new screws.

Even if I had purchased the knife for hard use, I would still be pissed as well if the knife showed up in that condition. For the price you probably paid and given it is a Benchmade, I would expect the original presentation to be better. While it may not be worth your time to send Benchmade e-mails and complain (can't hurt) it is still annoying. If you wanted a knife that was or looked mildly used, you could have purchased that knife for a discounted price off someone else.

I would only expect a $4.99 knife in a bin of other pocket knives at a gas station to have scratches and discoloration before you purchased it. Just my two-cents.

I have never been that impressed with Benchmade knives I've purchased. They seem over-priced to me and never quite feel right in hand or something about the knife always bothers me. That being said, the BM Adamas is a knife on my list to purchase as well.

Jhyde, I can relate with you. I have many expensive knives. I use them if I need a really dependable knife for something. However, for everyday use (cutting boxes, working on my property, carving some sticks by the campfire, hacking a small limb, etc. I don't like to use my most expensive, best looking knives either. I have a number of less expensive or already banged up good knives I use for that. Seems stupid to purchase a knife for $150 and then use it cutting duct tape and get it all sticky or pry something with it or cut something very hard and nick the blade up a little.... why not use a less expensive knife for that? At the risk of losing my knife-nut-man-card, I will admit I have a Bear Grylls fixed blade "survival knife" I use when working on my property. I stick it into concrete bags when cutting them open, hack limbs, pry with it, bang things with it when I am too far from the house and don't have a small hammer, etc. Why mess up a more expensive knife for that? If I was in the military, then I would want to carry a BM Adamas. If I am backpacking, then I carry a more expensive survival / camp knife. But most of us don't do that kind of stuff everday, so why not tear up a cheap knife for such tasks and admire the craftmanship of our better knives until we actually need them for something "better". I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but guess that is the stage I am in as well.

Having seen more than a few production/assembly lines, I'd imagine the liners are just tossed in a bin after coating and pulled out on the assembly table...especially since it seems most of the knives have those little spots on the liner edges. Certainly not something I would care about, but apparently some people do.

My feelings exactly. Others? not so much. Different strokes for different folks...

Benchmade CS is some of the best i've had to deal with, The only company with better CS is Kershaw/ZT. I lost my knife, found it 3 months later in a basement and it had rusted like you would not believe, I called benchmade and told them, shipped the knife in with $40 bucks to get a blade replacement and , they just sent me a brand new knife! They are very nice and will take care of you, but call them on the phone, I suggest talking to your dealer first and seeing if you can't get a refund first, as it's a brand new knife and it's the dealers responsibility first and foremost If you just bought it. If they dealer won't do something about it then I'd call benchmade as my last resort. Good luck keep us updated
