Am I being too picky with the Adamas? Opinions!

I'm not sure what BM uses to coat the liners with, but I don't think it is the same stuff as what they coat the blade with. Sorta looks like a black oxide coating. Just looked at my liners and I can see a spot here and there, not to the extent of what jhydes are though, and I've carried/used mine for the past 2 weeks.

If the place you bought it is out of these, then your options are to;

1- get a refund and reorder from someplace that has them in stock. Surely there is a CENTER that does things with KNIVES, that would have them in stock.
2- contact BM and see what they say.
-or-
3- Keep it, and use it, or keep it, and let the spots drive you crazy!

If they are going to eat at you I would go ahead and see what I could do about getting another one.

My take on it is this:

If someone sold me a knife in "NIB condition" on these forums, and it showed up like that, I'd be upset. So the retail-store/manufacturer should be held to the same standards. I personally use all my knives (not that there's anything wrong with collecting), but even then I'd be pissed if I could have just gotten a used version of that knife for less than I paid for a new one that showed up in less-than-new condition.

Well, here is what Benchmade said: Without seeing the knife, they can't help me at all. The woman I spoke with said she didn't know if it would be covered or not under warranty. She suggested to send it in along with my concerns, and warranty MIGHT be able to help me. Overall, not that much help.

So as of now I'm simply going to try to get a refund, or sell it to a buddy who has wanted one. Not sure if sending it into Benchmade is worth the hassle

That response is standard with all companies. They do need to see the condition of the knife to determine what it's all about. The prominent area in your pictures looks as if the knife was dropped onto something hard, rocks/gravel/concrete, etc. I would have expected a more reasonable answer on their end.

This one is going back, getting a refund from KW. Good conversation, quite helpful.

Benchmade? not so much. Not that its a HUGE deal, I just expected a bit more on their end. The person I spoke to didn't seem to care, or know, all that much.

I can say that I believe the OP's problem is not isolated because as stated ealier, mine came the same way. It isn't as bad as the OP's and not as obvious because mine isn't a blackout model but to me, it looks like these marks and chips are caused by a big Rubbermaid container of finished liners all banging against each other in the "bucket" as they work themselves to assembly. The paint looks like just that, black paint and not a hard coating. All just waiting to be chipped in that big bucket.

Not disagreeing that it isint isolated, but why would it only appear on the edges of the liners? Unless yours have marks inside as well?

Mine were only on the outer edges of the liners, I looked inside as well, none to be seen.

Benchmade, if/when they redeem themselves, =:thumbdn:

I just think its funny that you feel like Benchmade took a dump on you because a few scratches throw you into a forum post tizzy rather than just admitting that you are obsessive compulsive about them and asking the company you got it from for a return/refund right away. Whatever you choose to do with your refund money, please don't buy an Emerson because I assure you that it won't meet your standards of perfection. Also if you buy a Sebenza make sure that you don't have a microscope around because I am sure the molecules don't perfectly line up even on that knife. Sorry for the strong ribbing but these threads me me laugh a little.

.....This only has to do with the fact that the woman I spoke to didn't seem to care about the problem I had. Compared to the interactions I have had with other companies (even CRKT) that were phenomenal, this wasn't so good. I paid ~135 for a product, I expect it to come to me not looking like someone had it, carried it for a day, then sent it off to a dealer. Its bothersome when even small things like that can't be accomplished.

my adamas is flawless. kinda looks like you got a lemon. if it makes you feel any better, my ZT 0300 and extrema ratio MF2 were both lemons. the ZT was repaired and the Extrema ratio just went back for replacement.

In my experience, any of BM's knives which have black liners will look like that. It is VERY likely IMO that your replacement will be similar.

Their black oxide coating on their liners shows marks extremely well. It's just part of it I guess.

As long as it doesn't interfere with the function of the knife, why should that matter? Did you buy the knife just to fondle and look at, or do you plan to actually use it? I would be more concerned with sloppy lockup or flimsy overall construction on a knife with that particular design. Let's face it. Those Adamas aren't pretty "gent" style folders anyway.

Don't lose faith in benchmade put yourslef in their shoes you have a stranger calling you saying they have a problem, and not knowing you or your situation, you have a job to do. there are people who try to get over on others everyday. So you doing your job tell a customer you can't do anything without seeing the knife, because If you say o yea well give you a brand new one , and you havent seen the knife, when the knife does arrive it may be something the user has done and is not covered under benchmade warranty. As someone said it's a standard answer for them not seeing the knife and just having a over the phone convo, I promise if the knife was at their shop your conversation would have been entirely different. Not saying you were trying to get over on anyone just saying that companies haft to protect themselves from people like that. I have dealt with benchmade CS and they have never done me wrong. You just gotta understand your options are limited when they havent seen the knife and there taking your word for what the problem is. Hope you get this resolved, If you wanna sell the knife shoot me an e-mail...:D

I'm. With the original O.P. I have exactly 12 Benchmade knives. I use three really hard. And keep the others in the box nib. In case I want to sell trade them later. If I bought a new truck (I actually just did) even though I'm going to use it everyday, I don't expect it to have scratches on the paint job when I drive off with it. The more we get complacent about this kind of stuff the more those companies will let that stuff slide. BTW: My Limited Adamas was flawless.
