Am I crazy EDCing an (inexpensive) limited edition knife?

So, recently, I snagged a new Kershaw Blur BDZ tanto...i love it, and it was a style i was really waiting for.
The problem is, i know it is supposed to be limited, and it is mentally unnerving to use what may be a collectors item. I know i can always try to grab another, but my question still stands.

In terms of use, i know the blade can take abuse, but the anno onmy other blur is already wearing, so i dont have high hopes for the anno on this lasting..

Your thoughts? Do you EDC a limited blade?

There are people who carry 2 and 3 thousand dollar customs so I think you'll be all right. I myself sometimes carry a numbered (one of the first 10 made) Kingdom Armory BTB.

I doubt it'll raise that much in value considering its a kershaw and I doubt it has a crazy "cult" following like some other manufactures have..... and Im not sure how much you spent on it, though I daily carry $400-$700 knives...

Hell, sometimes I carry 2 that combine to be over $1,000 ....

In my mind it isn't a big deal simply due to how much satisfaction I get from it... Life is about living, and in doing so you enjoy it ;)...

If your always worried about stuff, whats the point....?

If your the type of person who likes to carry all your knives then go for it .....you only live once...life is short brother..!!!

Life is short. Enjoy your posessions. If your posessions become a burden (financial stress, fear of loss, or even physical bulk, etc.), change your ways, let go, lighten your load, move on. Even if they are the most artfully crafted unobtanium forged 1 of 1 diamond encrusted Faberge' eggs of the cutlery world, they are yours to use as you see fit, and, after all, just knives.

Bought a Camillus Fisk OVB Bowie in fiddleback maple some years back. Had the same thoughts as you did. Ran into Fisk on BF Chat one night, and mentioned my concern. (BF Chat used to be awesome back in the day). Anyways, Fisk tells me..... "That baby was made to work, so Go Forth!".... And the rest is history.

So I'll pass along some wisdom that a National Living Treasure once passed along to me..... That baby was made to work, so GO FORTH!

You don't know much about Kershaw do you? It's ok to just say you don't know. Did you ever happen to see what the Blue and Gray Blurs sold for after market? How about the Tilt & Volt? ;) (kidding, don't get all bent) .

Anyway, I don't think this knife will be enough to retire on if you kept it in pristine condition. I've been eye balling that one for a week or two now.

Being that it is a Kershaw, with the warranty that entails, put it to use. I wouldn't deliberately beat the snot out of a limited run knife, but if your typical EDC needs are for run-of-the-mill cutting tasks, what's the harm?

I like the mindset here...makes me feel better about using it (It retails for 65, but i have seen other rare blurs go in the hundreds). Its funny, in that i would love to buy and use more expensive blades..... but i carry the same worry, since i can be rather hard on things. Maybe now i will reconsider...

I have had a similar mindset. Buy a Benchmade and stop worrying about hurting it; you won't. :)

The irony... i held a BM 583 (love the look) and was actually rather underwhelmed. Aside from the grip feel, it just...... didnt click for me

Best response my friend!

Thomas from KAI sent me a ZT 0551 a while back. Serial number 0004. If you're familiar with the brand, you'll know the 0551 is a limited run in itself, but the fact that it's the fourth one ever made is it's real beauty!

Guess where it spends most of it's days...MY POCKET :D

Like the other guys said, life is too short not to enjoy the hell out of what you have! That Blur is a really awesome piece and I'm sure you'll enjoy it more using it than admiring it from afar.

Ask yourself why you bought the LE in the first place. If it was because it had features that appealed to you that the original lacked, go ahead and use it. If it was for it's uniqueness/rarity, use something else. If it was both, buy a spare - that's why I own two of the BFC skylines. The only knife I own that I actually want to use, but can't bring myself to, is my beloved Tilt, which is relegated to fondling duty (that sounds less weird in my head).

Interestingly enough, I think the sheer variety of blurs actually increases their value down the line, because people start trying to collect all the different Blur variations.

Also, out of curiosity, how does the BDZ-1 hold up compared to a regular blur? I was thinking of grabbing one myself.

Strange thing these days..... many like "vintage used" as much as new in a box. Use it, just don't abuse it.

I carry mine regularly

A fair point - i bought it because i loved a new steel, and i love the straight tanto on the blur.. i just am a bit more paranoid with it due to its limited nature. I am considering getting a backup to put away, and thus feel less guilty about this one.

AS for the steel.. it seems to be holding up well. I wish i could find more info on it, but it doesn't seem to be out there that much. So far i like it though.. has held up to the light -medium box and paper duty so far.

Keep the input coming guys.. i have to admit, i like seeing the limiteds that people are carrying

The only Skyline that spoke to me was the Blade HQ limited edition. The aesthetics just look so killer to me. I carry it with pleasure/pride all the time. I also look forward to carrying my moonglow Native around the campsite this summer. I think the niece and nephew will geek out over the glow in the dark.
