Am I completely insane for carrying what I do?

Here's my EDC...

Front Left Pocket: Leatherman Juice S2 and Zippo

Front Right: Wallet and Keys

Back Left: Benchmade Mini-Ambush and Bandana

Back Right: Becker Necker

Belt Right Kidney: Surefire G2 and Cell Phone in Nite Ize case

Back Left Kidney (soon): Springfield GI Champion and One Reload

Gimme some feedback! I'm startin to feel like a mall ninja carrying a fixed blade, a folder and a Leatherman but sometimes one or the other is required. For instance, I really don't want to foul up my BM-MA by doin CRAZY hard stuff that my BK-11 could do without a hitch and I need the screwdrivers and stuff for my weapon on and off duty. Anyone else carry a fixed blade and a folder? Is it reasonable? I think it is, but I just kind of feel, a little overdressed is the word I guess.

Let me know what you guys think, and don't recommend getting something new, I've dropped about 80 bucks in the last couple o' days!

Can't speak to your sanity :D , but carrying different things for different purposes doesn't seem unreasonable. I typically carry a small SAK, small locking folder (dyad, to be precise), larger folder clipped to my pocket, and a Leatherman in a sheath on the belt. Plus, a small Inova LED light, and (for backup) a Photon light on my keys. There have been days when all have been deployed at one time or another; there have been days when only one or two have been deployed. Doesn't seem strange to me - and I work in an office/lab environment. Never have carried a fixed blade on a daily basis; only on weekends when in the woods, etc.

It seems strange to some people (that I carry all of that), I suspect - until they ask to borrow any of them... :)

You could probably use a Zeiss Mini Quick and a digital voice recorder. Have you seen Rick Hinderer's modular kubotans? You can get a pen tip for it, and use it to write up tactical reports. :)

If you can carry a fixed, I don't see why you'd carry a folder. I carry a Large Classic Micarta Sebenza and a small swiss army knife on my keychain (for the phillips screwdriver, tweezers, nail file and toothpick) and I feel like I'm over-knifed most of the time. If I could carry a fixed blade, I'd most likely drop the Sebenza because they're redundant.

The bad news............... Yes, you're crazy :( .........................

The good news............. You're not alone! :D

And by the way, I'm very jealous of that Springfield - I used to have a Springfield 1911 until our government decided it couldn't trust it's citizens......... Don't get me started

No- because if you are crazy, there is no hope for me. I have several Items on my person sheeple wouldnt really be comfortable with.

I doubt he needs them every day, but when he does, there's no substitute for being equipped.

It's not that I need the screwdrivers for my weapon it's that I want them there should something go wrong or I need to take it down past 1st echeleon etc. To boot, their handy as hell to have around to fix various things or tinker with stuff from time to time. I can't tell you how many times I've dropped the Leatherman and then needed it that day.

As for the folder, people tend to freak when you pull out a fixed blade for random cutting chores and a folder is not near as menacing as the latter. I use the MA for just about everything when cutting. My BK-11 is just there should I need it or have to do something really nasty that I wouldn't put my MA up to.

BTW thanks a lot Esav, you're not helping by recommending new stuff...or were you perhaps venturing on the "SMART" side with that first reply? :D

What he said!

Just recommending a couple of items I tend to carry.

If you want to be an official knife knut, you should get a knife necklace, too. Spyderco made one, and Kellam carries a few very small -- some jewelry, some actually tiny working knives. And then there's Jot Singh Khalsa's.

But for real use, you're doing OK. :D

If you're crazy, then I'm certifiable. I carry AT MINIMUM usually 3 knives (one locking, one fixed, and one slipjoint). I don't find that to be unusually weird. I have always maintained that there is a reason for this kind of carry and it is that there are different kind of tasks that people meet throughout the day. If I'm worried about a lock failing, I use the fixed. If I'm not worried about the lock issue I use the locking folder. If I'm in the company of knife-challenged people, I use a slipjoint because it puts them at ease. It's not always prudent to pull a fixed blade out in public- especially since the public tends to be so ignorant of knife laws. The LAST thing you really want to do is be detained for a part of your day because some moron didn't know what you had was legal. You're not crazy, if anything you're restrained compared to some of the people here.

Sincerely,
Anthony

Nutty as a fruitcake with nuts.

Where the heck is your gentleman's knife for formal occasions?

There ought to be a Jester on your keychain.

And you're not carrying any sort of cutting implement in a sheath, I see. Why, that's just wasted space!!!

:D

I am not the one to pass judgment on your sanity...

Here's a picture of my current EDC:

And here's a breakdown on just the knives:

Right Pocket Clip: Camillus Aftermath (folder)
Left Pocket Clip: Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx (4" recurve folder)
Necker: Rob Simonich Bitteroot (fixed)
Belt Pouch: Victorinox Spirit Plus (multi-tool)
Right Pocket: Victorinox Small Golfer (SAK)
Wallet: Victorinox SwissCard Lite (card)

This may not make you feel any better, but at least you know that it isn't just you... ;)

Would you know exactly what tool you need with less than a split second to reach it? If you do, you are sure, and can do so without any thought you are all set.

Beyond a knife and gun I would go coo koo with all that equipment in my pockets.

plus, my pants would fall down!!!!

I do know exactly where everything is, without having to think about it. Not everything is instantly accessible, but the items I'm likely to need in a real hurry are (handgun, knives, pepper spray, flashlight). I have practiced enough getting those out to do it automatically in an emergency.

And my pants don't fall down because my Wilderness Tactical Instructor Belt holds them up. :D

Seriously, how much does all that stuff weight?

Mine? The handgun, spare magazine, and ammunition weigh roughly the same as everything else put together.

If nothing else, I balance. ;)
