My wife says I'm stupid for being out in the wake of a hurricanne and sleeping in a debris shelter in the rain and possibly sleet. I'm watching my fire go down as I type this on my blackberry. So I ask all you rat packers why? Am I doing this for a knife? Hell yeah! Or am I doing this because I enjoy the punishment? Alittle, kinda feels like a rite of passage. I really love the topic of survival (I guess I can be called an armchair survivalist) but I'm tring to change that. I'm getting out in the woods as often as I can asd much as my job and wife and son allow me to. I'm learning by doing not just by scrolling thru a message board reading. Wow starting to rain harder and my fire almost out so ill head off to bed.

i have to agree with your wife on this one............

btw, you know how much it costs to replace a crackberry! even w/ insurance it's at least 100. keep that baby dry.

Darkwater said ..... My wife says I'm stupid for being out ......

My wife said the same ....so I said I agree. God made men stupid .... she was amazed in my insight. She asked when did I realize that ........... I said if we weren't so stupid, we wouldn't be interested in women. Think of how many knives and guns I could buy for what we waste on jewelery, clothes and your car.

I have never been called stupid again :D

I don't know if you are stupid sometimes its sounds intresting to me camping and hiking and some fishing or hunting, but overhere in the Netherlands i think there aren't so many places where you can do that. But comfortly at home there is nothing wrong with that or it should be the wife haha

Never argue with your wife....Thats what basements and cigars were designed for.

Sounds like a good opportunity to see just how miserable things can really get out there.

I've spent a few nights out in some pretty terrible conditions including tropical storm force winds. I've been woken up in the wee hours of the morning to the sound of a tree crashing down so close to my campsite that some debris ended up on my tent.

Just this year, the Mrs and I spent the better part of an hour out in driving rain and 30 mph winds holding our cabin tent up. Never been so cold in my life.

I remember walking the streets down here during hurricane Ike, where I literally had to keep low and lean into the wind or else get my 250lb ass dragged across the pavement.

Nothing compares to getting out there in the roughest of conditions to knock the know it all out of you.

Its humbling to realize how bad it can really get and how fragile you really can be out there.

Have fun and stay safe.

Heh, going out in the wake of a hurricane stupid? No.

If you went out to sleep in a debris hut in the hurricane, yes.

You can always turn the tables and mention that a smart wife would realize that your time out learning survival skills on your own, is time for her to do stuff she likes to. . .

Which I told my husband, and his reply was: stuff I like is being with you right here ...
