When I was younger, I was definitely tilting in the direction mall ninjary. I loved black blades, serrations I would never use... The larger the blade the better, and the tanto was king. I somehow lost all of that as I got older. I am no longer attracted to tanto style blades. I still like some larger blades in a folding knife, but i now also love many smaller ones, so my range has opened up. Anyway, I have recently been struck by some bizarre fever. I have long been vaguely turned off by fairly all spyderco's. This is simply not so anymore. In fact, i have become quite fond of quite a few. It started with my falling in love with the stretch II. Buying one, falling out of love with it...then falling even deeper in love with it, again. Now then, I have noticed many mall ninja related posts that lists a knife called "the Mannix" as among the ultimate mall ninja knives. Does this refer to the Spyderco Manix? Because I have been seriously eying that knife up. I am really liking it. Am I slipping back into my old ways? Should i be worried that there are untold tanto blades in my future? Are black coated blades next? Oh God! NO! I cannot handle the black coating. I know there are perfectly valid reasons for it, even for non law enforcement and non military...Crap! Now I'm justifying it. I really hope i am not turning back into a mall ninja. I'm too old for that.

Theres nothing ninja about the Manix. It seems that the phrase "mall ninja" gets thrown around a lot around here, some people simply apply that phrase to anything they don't like. Btw, why do you care what other people think, are you buying it for them?

The Manix is a very popular design, and for good reason, anyone who thinks that it's "mall ninja" needs to come up for air more often. (moms basement can get quite stifling);)

Anyways at your age you're more likely to become an armchair commando. That's what I am.;)

Gotta agree with you there. The Manix is practically a Caly 3 that's been stretched out, and the pins replaced with screws. Looks very functional, comfortable, and just plain nice.

However, I gotta add. When I first saw this thread, my initial thoughts were about another knife knut turning towards slipjoints.

Yeah, my mind is gone. It was a Mantis. Thanks for the clarification. Sorry for the mix-up. Oh, and worry not, my post wasn't about what other people think. It was my own aversion to my mall ninja past. I was just being vaguely humorous. Too vaguely it seems.

I didnt much care for spydies much at first either. I looked at them and just went blech:barf:

Then I used a couple for a bit and went :foot::eek::thumbup: O. Thats what all the fuss is about. The form is in the function.

Spyderco knives are not beautiful and attractive until you use them. Then it all changes. These knives work so beautifully and feel so good in the hand. ERGONOMICS should be Spyderco's name. It took me a while to get past the hole in the blade and the clip. Now that is the only way to go. They also carry sooo well. No thumstuds to catch on anything and the clips are some of the best. I have a lot a knives but the Spydercos are my choice and the Slipits are really nice.
