Agreed
On my recent knife purchases, I’ve taken off, and tossed the painted clips (aka crap IMO).. None of my 530’s have clips, and they sit in the pocket in an unobtrusive manner.
I’m not sure what sparked the change, but I’m really liking the idea of other’s not “seeing” my blade clipped on me, this way, only “I” know its there if I want to use it![]()
In my years and years of carrying clipped knives on most of my pockets simultaneously, I've not had one person comment to me about it. Make that people who probably are not familiar with knives. Sure, people I work with, but they all know I am a knife nut anyways. And I am always asked to sharpen their knives, which I do not mind doing. But I've never had anything negative happen as a result of having multiple clips visible.
As for "painted" clips, I usually slip on a piece of heat-shrink tubing, or some black traction tape that Pep Boys sells. Either is more durable than paint, and easily replaceable if damaged.
I think I have two knives without clips, they never go anywhere with me. One stays in the kitchen for opening packages and the like. The other collects dust somewhere.
Manufacturers should continue as they do, clips installed from the factory. If you do not like them, remove them. Simple.
