Am I the only one who can't do the middle finger flick open?

I am with you. I use my thumb exclusively. I never have been able to use my middle finger for opening a knife.
 
Never tried it.

Should I?

I'm a pretty old dog.... new tricks and me don't see eye-to-eye all that often.
 
I only middle finger flick my compression lock knives. Thumb for everything else.
