HEY BF,

Just wanted to post pics my first 10 knives in various stages of finish. I had posted my first here back in December. I am waiting on a makers mark, then finish these and sell some for steel and materials, to do a second batch. I do still have 10 or so out in the shop waiting for handles.

Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
John Landi

Thanks Metalhead, it's 1095. I bought it from Admiral. It was HTed to Rc 58-59 by Peters HT in Meadville PA.

Thanks for looking.

Nice. That is a bunch of good knives there.

How much do they charge per knife/inch, and do they have any limits (like Bos's air hardening only, etc) on what they'll work with?

Oh, and nice knives, by the way! :D

I'm interested in this as well.

Great looking knives. Very functional/practical designs. The workmanship looks top notch.

Hello CSheperd an Lucky Bob,

They charge by the pound, with a 20 pound minimum.

I know of a full time maker who has a 100 or so knives a month HTed by them, he does 440C and D2.

I don't know what else they will do, but I suspect most steels.

They are very reasonable. I paid around $40 (plus S/H) for 24 knives out of 1095.

Call and talk with Brad at Peters. http://www.petersheattreat.com/

Also, when I had spoke to him, Brad had told me that they do about 500,000 knives a year, including knives for some very well known companies.

Good Luck,
John Landi

Hey John looks good bud, 10 turn into 50, 50 turn into 500 and so on with each step things should change as well, lines get smoother, bevel get cleaner so keep it up.

Thanks for sharing

20 pound minimum!? That's probably more than I'll make in a YEAR.

No wonder your first set (as opposed to most people's first knife) was so large.

I worded that incorrectly,

Should have said 0 to 20 pounds...

More like 20 pound increments... they will do only one if you like.

Getting ready for a business trip...I have too many irons in the fire.

Sorry.

It is still a great deal as long as you can use volume to your advantage.

As far as how many I made, I had just gotten my Coote (in June) and wanted to get some practice in. The 1095 from Admiral was only $75 delivered. Thats kept me going this far.

I have started to think about my next batch. Putting the cart before the horse, I know.

I am thinking about a full flat grind, in A2. I have a design for an outdoor, semi tactical looking series. Kind of Rat Cutlerish but, with a clip point bowie style blade.

Hey Spencer,

True thanks for looking. Ya, I am already starting to get consumed with whats next.

This really is a disease...:D

John

Lol, I was thinking about the same thing Nick. MY first 10 weren't even truly worthy of the term "blades" they were more like BSOs "Blade Shaped Objects" ;)

Those are you FIRST 10?!?! Did I read that right?

Holy moly

Hey Nick and Metalhead,

Wow, thanks for the complement... and ya, my first ten. Lots of mistakes, some that I am still trying to fix.

Looking forward to posting more.

Hi,

Nice looking knives. I tried to use A2 for the first knife I made and found it to be real tough, even in the annealed state. I got it from McMaster Carr.

Gotcha, alright, that works. I probably won't send just one, but if/when I can get a shop up and running, I'll make a batch and THEN send it to them.

Those are some nice knives, wish my knives looked like that, most of mine look like prison shanks
