i just picked up a d'allara drop point today. im so impressed and happy with this knife. this seems to be one of the most underrated spydercos ever. its truly awesome, and the ball lock makes it unique from my lockback spydercos. and i also like the fact that the knife was made to honor a hero.

its also one of the smoothest opening knives i have.

Hear hear! Water beading off of optically-flat glass is rough and gritty in comparison to the action of the D'Allara Drop Point.

I love both of mine (original rescue with the fat handle and revised drop point with slim handle). A bit large for EDC, but they are so nice to flick open and close.

Actually, the D'Allara drop point is probably slim enough for EDC espically since it's lighter with the thinner skeletonized liners and scalloped FRN scales.

Glad to see your posts about the d'allara. I've been wondering about this knife for sometime. It looks like it is a great knife for a decent price.

:)

The D'Allara is one of the smoothest and most comfortable knives I have ever owned. Highly recommended.

I got one of these in a recent trade and I am very impressed with this knife. As some of the others said it is easily one of the smoothest and most solid knives I have ever handled. Yeah it is pretty wide when it's closed but I honestly don't notice it any more than my other knives in this size range when clipped in my pocket. I'll agree with what A.P.F. said in that I also highly recommend this knife, especially for the price. Here's some pictures I shot of mine and some of my other favorite Spydercos today.

Take care, Heath.

im a smaller guy myself, so i dont like my blades too big. i would never carry a manix, but the d'allara is just fine. its really not that big, the handle is just widened to fit your hand better. i think a lot of people think its too big until they see one up close and handle it. im surprised this knife isnt one of spydercos top sellers, and the value is incredible for the price. i myself never thought much about it till i saw it myself at the store and realized it wasnt a big as it looked in the pics. if you are looking for a new spyderco and have never given much thought about the d'allara, check this one out for sure. probably one of the only spydercos you could easily flick the blade out. and because the knife is so sturdy and strong, you probably wouldn't be causing it any damage by the constant flicking.

Without a doubt the D'Allara is one of the biggest sleepers in the Spyderco line. It is a great knife!

100% agreed! The D'Allara is an amazing knife, and very different all other knives. The D'Allara is a little wide, but this only makes flicking it open easier. Smoothest knife I own, period!

Hi Jlfletcher,

Tip up works better for this knife, especially if one is inertia opening.

In general, regading tip up or tip down, we have learned that there are advantages and disadvantages to both. Best to learn to drive both a stick shift and an automatic ;)

I want one!!! I've heard it is smoother than the axis gritilians which I thought were very smooth.

The D'Allara is the smoothest opening knife I've ever handled. It is pretty amazing. I had hadled a few axis lock knives (Grips in the store and I carried a Rukus for a week) before I got the D'Allara, and they were smooth, just not as smooth and easy opening as the D'Allara.

Hi. I am amazed by all the similar first impressions, and by the fact that I came to a 100% identical impression of it. I got mine this past Friday night. I agree with everyone, it is the smoothest knife I own. It is my new EDC. It might be heavy, But Id like to see a stainless version, or Ti. That'd be a nice knife.
Got a few pictures to share. My other two Spydercos make up the growing family.

Enjoy.

nice pics. when you compare the d'allara to the endura, you will see its not really that big. the d'allara is my new edc as well.

i am a dedicated martial artist, and inmop the d'allara is a good folder to carry for self defense. i feel it is quite robust and will be reliable should i need to deploy a folder very fast and easily.

Anybody carry it with a Zip-tie for a "wave" technique?

I have been carrying my BM 710 for about 5 years now and am starting to do research on what I want to get in order to place it in retirement.

you really dont need a wave for this knife inmop. it opens quite fast and easily without one.

Well with everyone talking about how smooth these are I just had to have one.....my 1/2 unit gave me the go ahead and I just ordered mine from wildeals.com $51.00 I cant wait!!!!

thats a crazy price for a d'allara! i paid like $80 for mine, but i got mine at a local store. let us know what you think of it when you receive it.
