Amazing Damascus!

Any thoughts?
I think this would get a great audience in Custom & Handmade Knives. :)

A thread title that read "Jon Christensen's amazing leaf dmascus!" might have pulled in more views.

Jon is a genius, and this is a great example of why.

Mr Christensen, if you read this thread further, thanks for explaining the method for the pattern. Fascinating. I wonder what method you used to open the billet at the end? Looks like not distorted enough for accordion, none of the leaves are cut so maybe not a Ferry flip, did you build up a big enough loaf to just slice a blade this big from the end? I'm grasping at straws here...

This looks amazing; I didn't even know damascus could be manipulated like this. If I had the funds I would want to get a damascus piece such as the persian leaf bowie in the gallery.

Someday..I'll get a damascus knife..

Thanks Roger! Are you gonna make Arkansas?

Salem, I do use the "Ferry Flip" to open up the pattern. You may not see cut or partial leaves but they are there and add alot to the pattern.

I want the leaves to look as natural as possible. When you look at leaves under a tree you don't see individual leaves all spaced out perfect but but a mass, some lying on others and bent or broken leaves. This is what I am after with this pattern.

I like to call it "Controlled Randomness". I intentially do things like that to make the pattern organic and to drive myself crazy. :D

Maybe I will do a WIP on my facebook page this spring and show the process.

Jon
