AMAZING EBay Finds!!!

Once again, if you are not interested in this thread your not obligated to post in it or even open it for that matter. You contribute nothing to the tread so in actuality, YOU are making it "not cool."

back on topic: I had a buddy find some good deals on some older case knives and an old but mint condition camillus becker!

WELL SAID!
Again I ask, how is this thread somehow "Not cool"???
No explanation of "why", or "I had a bad experience"..... nothing @ all.

As a real newcomer here, I'm REALLY starting to get a very bad vibe. Do you guy's represent the majority of the people here on BF? Because if you do, maybe this isn't the place for me... :(

Why would you take the time to post your disdain for another's curiosity? Are you guy's TRYING to piss off a complete stranger?
Because if you are.... IT'S WORKING!!!

I have on the most part have had a good experience on EBAY. The best deals for me seem to have been inaccurate descriptions or listings with only so so pictures. I recently scored a Sog Jet Edge, with a ATS-34 blade ,carbon fiber handles for less than $25.00 shipped. The knife was almost mint, but the seller described it as having nylon handles and the pics were blurry. I guess I took a chance on buying it, but it ended up as good deal. The knife lists for around $140.00 and it's one of my favorite EDC. I also recently got a turd that was not what it was described as. Luckily I am only out $16.00 not worth even trying to return. I primarily collect slip joints and have amassed a decent vintage Schrade collection through EBAY.

i have had real good experiences on ebay with only one bad one and that was not ebay's fault, it was the seller, he did not like it because i won a pair of clark shoes for and ultra low price.
my saying to that is, it is what it is.
my motto on knife buying is that i do not buy one period if i do not like it, that way i basically do not get jacked on a deal. one little sample is a kershaw justin slipjoint half wood and half stainless, sweet little jack knife one of my daily edc's...

to convex, hey man you are welcome to the forum, glad to have you, do not let a few folks opinions deter you, opinions are like cracks, everybody has one. have a happy and enjoy the ride, it is fun...

I got a Benchmade 720 that was almost LNIB for $100. It was a bowie style PE. I've seen them go as high as $200.
BTW, Convex- Welcome to BladeForums.

No worries, we all have our moods but we're a friendly bunch (Except Bastid. Don't be fooled.).

One thing I'd like to add to my earlier statement. I've got some customs I really enjoyed from hobbyist makers that I really liked and would have never found outside of Ebay. There are some who are more than hobbyists that only really sell there. Larson Forge comes to mind. John Greco does sales on Ebay that are a lot cheaper than his website.

Ignore it , it's part of life and every forum in the world. :)

I have found some really nice deals on the bay !

My only word of advice is that if the price tag is high , and the pics are blurry , ask for more !
I find it funny how terms get knocked around/twisted/misused on some of the auctions :D

I'm at work so no pics but I've gotten some nice knives off of there and a few crappy ones , hey live and learn lol.

Just to keep in mind, the flipside of that is that it's not your thread, you don't own it. Once you start a thread, people can post whatever they like in it, so don't get in the habit of trying to play Thread Police. You won't enjoy the results.

To stay on topic, there are one hell of a lot of scammers on the 'bay. So it pays to beware. That said, I've found some nice out-of-production limited run knives there for quite reasonable prices- like my polished G10 Leek. :)

Sage advice indeed!
Never thought of it like that, thanks for the different perspective!
Believe me, the last thing I want to do is be the "Thread Police"!

All the same, especially with a brand new member who is just now forming an impression of this forum, I think common courtesy would dictate that "if you don't have something nice to say...... ;) "

Unprovoked, snide comments to perfect strangers don't usually go over very well... on or offline.
And that's not just common courtesy..... that's Common Sense.

I apologize for taking the thread off topic...

Not knife related but I just picked up some old pulp sci-fi magazines from the 50s. I dont know any other place where I could get something like that for so cheap (less than 5 bucks for a dozen of them) or so fast.

nah, BF has a pretty good mod staff to handle that

I keep looking for the crazy good deals, but only tend to manage par. Sometimes things get stupid, like a 4 x 1 5/8" coticule that's at $81 right now. The seller has an online storefront where you can buy the same size for $38.95.

I got some good BM deals. I scored a bunch of 730 Ares knives before they got really expensive for under $70 NIB. I got 5 of them and a couple of 732's as well. They go well over $130 NIB now. Sometimes $200 for a PE one.

Since this thread isn't getting much love I'll play.

Kershaw 25th Anniversary. 1 of 300ish. Ken Onion and some others hand ground all the blades and put alot of hand work into fitting and assembling the knives. The don't pop up for sale very often and aren't that well known. The originally sold for about $400 IIRC and you never know what they will sell for on the secondary market. Some go high, some go low. However, they are always a bargain for very close to a Onion shop midtech. I caught this one on the bay for $150 bucks and I had a 15% coupon  I'd guess they would sell for pretty close to retail if you found one in a shop. IMO....SCORE :D

Edit to add: Some of the early ones (read: probably more valuable) had hand satin blade finishes. I think this one has the later machine satin.

cold steel stainless atc khuks 2 for 100,dalton auto for 30,and various handmades..all depends on search criteria and poor descriptions.

Over the years I've picked up some nice knives at good prices because the seller didn't recognize the maker's mark.

I got this one about a year and a half ago. It's an older J.D. Smith knife, before he became a Master Smith in the ABS.

This one is an older Michael Bell knife. Apparently, he only makes high end swords these days. His place is called "Dragonfly Forge".

WOW!
Truly impressive stuff sir!
I think not recognizing maker's marks (or sometimes not even noticing them) is the #1 way a $2000 knife turns into a $200 one. Well done man!

Absolutely LUV the J.D. Smith, looks very Sheffield!
Knives that are early works from ABS Master Smiths, or from makers who have switched their focus (That Michael Bell is a perfect example - from knives to Swords, daaaaaamn!) are IMHO, the Holy Grail!
Most of these makers won't ever make that style again, making these knives not just one-of-a-kind, but truly singular, heirloom quality finds...
Congrats sir!

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout!

I think about 95 percent of my ebay purchases were positive..that's a better recorded than online or retail stores...recently i bought A Kershaw Groove knife for 25 bucks new, free shipping, and a super lightly used spyderco Delica Clipit for 17 bucks...so u can get decent deals....

Sweet thread

Ebay has hooked me up beyond belief in the past. When I started ebaying in 03 the DEALS were endless, atleast with what I was after (spydies). You could get New Dodos for $50, Yojimbos for $60, Lum Folding Tantos for $100, FRN dyads $25, Toads for $30, Millies for under $75.

Sometimes you can still get real lucky on newly listed buy it nows. Many times people do not know what they have, or they just wanna get rid of it. If your not quick with that pay now feature than you can be ONE unhappy camper

Some of my most memorable deals are

New SE Para $55
Like New Police SE for $30
Multiple PE & SE Jesters for $10 (GREAT GIFTS)
used Persian $50
New SE Dodo $55 (still got her)
New Spyderhawk for $35
New PE Calypso Jr $25 (my new born nephews first spydie :D )
NIB #ed Big SE Calypso $65 (still got her)

Best deal of my life on ebay
Lum Tanto
Lum Ti folding Tanto (still got her)
CE Starmate
SE SS Calypso Jr (still got her)
rare co-pilot
PE Temperance w/ Rockwell marks
PE SS Rookie (RARE)
CE Spydercard
SE Spot
frn PE Cricket
mini police tie clip
PE SS Police
All for $350 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

most of those were all open auctions. Only way you could even think of getting deals like that today would be newly listed buy it nows. Dont get me wrong, you can still get real good deals on there, just not like you use to be able to.

Almost forgot the time I randomly put some super low bids on 3 MASSIVE victorinox lots and won over 200 pieces of all sorts!!!!! Boy did I hook friends and family up fat that year.

CHEERS!!!!
