Amazon 5000 - Guyana

Thanks for the pics, AIG. Look forward to the vids as well. Must be some good food recipes from down there.

Who can tell me what this track is? There is a whole story about that.

It looks like a big cat to me.

pretty sure the 'it' in 'he lost it in a machete fight' was his missing hand, not the boat. :)

At first glance I thought he had his hand in his pocket. Damn.

The pilings were made with small chips of rock and a cement. There seemed to be absolutely NO structural problems with them.

The Guyanese food was outstanding. I took a bunch of video of people cooking and asked them about the recipes etc. I've got some really good videos coming.

Cool. Keep 'em coming!

Good stuff, Doc.

I'll be eagerly awaiting the videos.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on traveling as light as you did. Crossing the jungle with just a folder, well played.

I'm really glad I traveled light. When I arrived the team redistributed gear and food so my pack ended up being 50 pounds. To make it even more fun I broke my foot during the raft (neck of the 5th metatarsal) so I had to walk 5 days on it, carrying that pack. It wasn't a huge deal, it didn't really impair the function of my foot, it just hurt a bit.

My own personal knife was just a folder but there were 3 Tops machetes along.

Way to go! Thanks a lot for sharing the story and pictures!! The picture of the track looks like it was made by your hand + a few thumb holes... ;)

Thanks for sharing this wonderful pictures and your stories.
Can you tell us about how you guys handle the drinking water? How about the locals?
Sorry I just have a personal fixation with how water affects people form other places.

Here is how we handled drinking water:

And the locals had cisterns to collect rain water from the roofs. You can see an example of a cistern being used in Guyana towards the end of this video:

Welcome back.

I'd already clocked that Cook Up Rice vid (thanks - it looks delicious!), but some how missed this thread

Glad you had a good time, despite the foot injury (which maybe you can see the pain of in one or two of your snaps) and that you all made it and back safe.

Hope you are soon on the mend, now you're back to take it a bit easier.

I'll look forward to seeing more videos as always.

Thanks again amigo.

p.s. I couldn't help thinking "Get to the chopper!" when I saw this ;)

Great story!! Guy in pic (rear right) looks like Chuck Norris.
