Amazon "Expedition" pictures, drama, snakes, machetes, jail, and more. DIAL UP DEATH.

I brought my whole family into the library to look at your pictures. They were fascinated by the camouflaged animals, "Oooohhh"ed at the puppies, and were shocked by the Plecostomus fish on stringers (we have one as a pet).

Thanks for sharing!

Outstanding pics and story. loved it. Kind of a frogs and dogs theme to it, lol. Interesting comments about the indigenous people treating you as outsiders and milking you or being generally a little scruffy. It is the same thing in the far north with (some) of the locals, as I'm sure you ran into down there also. The more isolated the community, the more of a shyness or stink eye you get from some locals. You even run into the odd pure hater and see locals arguing in their own language for and against how to treat you.

Oh yeah, it would be the same anywhere. Down in SC, at a port, they have a local price, and a tourist price, for the shrimp. Its everywhere!

Great pictures, Joe. Thanks for sharing.

Joezilla..

I live in Brazil and follow the steps of Mickey for your blog and facebook...I live in a state (Rondonia) that borders the state of Amazonas, but at 700 kilometers of tabatinga, if I lived closer, would certainly give a great support to him. I apologize for the problem you had here, but the Brazilian laws are heavy on the carrying of weapons (might think that Mickey was with some shotgun) and foreign documents, I am very embarrassed by an act of police....
Outside the problems I hope you enjoyed in Brazil..

You took Great pics!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post these pictures Joe, I absolutely cannot wait to do things like this in my life. I hope they finish up the trip okay. I look forward to more!

Just with a net. There were TONS of aquarium fish in the creeks.

For most of us, it would be a trip of a lifetime. I was doing some work in Colombia and those that stayed over Christmas went to Latecia. I went home for a week. Wish I would have gone to Latecia now. Haven't been back. Nice photos. It was unclear if the expedition continued after you left as that seemed to be the starting point or you were there the whole time.

wow, what an epic trip...that pic of the guy making a spoon with a machete is awesome!

Awesome post Joe and for a great cause as well! I spent some time in the jungle in Panama and Guatemala 15 years ago and seeing all the pics brought back some good memories. Thanks man!

Thanks for sharing the awesome story and pics!

I've always wondered what panama was like

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip, it was quite an adventure. It did re-affirm for me, however, never again to go south of Texas. But if that's your thing, enjoy!
