My phone isn't showing the photo. If it's the hollow handle one off Amazon then I would doubt it.

If you want something for the Amazon, buy an ESEE.

Welcome. Not seeing the knife, or knowing the brand, I am going to say "junk." Any knife named "Amazon Jungle Survival" is junk with a sexy name to lure in the suckers.

Do you want a new knife?
What do want to do with it? (and what is your experience/skill level doing that?)
How much do you want to spend?

Answer those and we can hook you up.

"Amazon Jungle Survival Knife".

If you are going to the Amazon, and you are not sure what would be a good knife to take with? Maybe time to rethink the trip until your skill level/knowledge base has increased a bit.

Just my opinion, just in case that is what's going on.

Just remember, you get what you pay for in most cases. I think more specific information may be needed to give a real answer.

If you're going to rough it in the Amazon, a good machete combined with several short bladed knives would be prudent. I would not rely on just one knife, if I had the choice.

Good brands of machetes would include Ontario, Condor, ESEE, Tramontina.

The "Amazon Jungle Survival Knife" looks like something to base your fantasies on; Not something to depend on. Just read the reviews on Amazon.com.

Haha absolutely perfect point!

It's also possible that this knife which happened to be named "Amazon Jungle Survival Knife" just appealed to the OP and a trip to the Amazon was not contemplated at all. What about it oohn?

My guesses would be: maybe, no, and no. You're welcome.

Of course. That's why I said

What showed up on Google did not inspire confidence. With a budget of $18 I would be much more inclined to buy a Tramontina Bolo Machete.

Point taken marcinek. I wonder if we'll hear back from oohm.

I doubt it. Too bad....1) If he wanted a good outdoors knife we could have suggested one; 2) If he just wanted a super awesome looking Rambo knife, I'm sure more than one of us would have told him to get whatever makes him happy.

Honestly everyone here just wants to be helpful but wont recommend something they don't think is good. Hope the OP answers back. My votes for a mora #3 lol big knife for 20$ though a 1 is more useful IMO

Not the case at all. I'll gladly recommend something not good if the person asking knows the knife's limitations. If oohn wants an awesome looking Rambo knife to bash trees with while car camping at the state park, and oohn thinks that Amazon Survival Knife is the hottest little thing he's ever seen, then I'd say get it.

Ultimately its about helping people get the knife they want. Often they have to figure out what they want first. Doing that is the hard part.

Yea - the OP is not planning a trip to the Amazon old chaps, he is referring to the largest online retailer that you may have heard of - Amazon.com - and an alarmingly inexpensive knife

Apparently this knife is a double amazon threat - the Amazon.com Amazon Jungle Amazon Knife Amazon!

As our intrepid experts have replied above, this knife is likely not worth the $17, there are much better options.

Look for a knife that actually states what kind of "razor sharp stainless steel" is used in the blade.

I note that this one shows AUS-6 SS on the blade tang. Not a premium steel - but the price already belies that fact.

Search around this forum and you will see many many knives that stand up to hard use and still are not so expensive as to price most people out of owning them.

It would have been nice if you linked or said the name.

The only $20 blade that you would want to trust your life to in the Amazon is a Ontario military machete. Your large blade/machete is the most important possession you got out there followed by your footwear. Skimping out on that only sets you up for the potential of a bad situation to get even worse.

I had a research trip in the west amazons a few years back, I brought a Mora, ESEE Junglas, and Leatherman Surge. We already had a few larger machetes so having a "beefier" one was justified on some of the local wood

I could never understand the relevance of the question "Is the knife sharp?". Truth is knives get dull when used and one should learn how to sharpen.
