Seems like Amazon needs a little lesson in New York State knife law, and possibly a geography lesson.... :thumbdn:

Tried to buy a Kershaw Volt II from them today, only to see they will not ship to either of my addresses (both in "Upstate" NY). When I contacted Customer service, they notify me that the Volt II is illegal in New York, which it is not (as long as you are outside NYC and possibly Albany/Buffalo/Rochester). I'd suggest Kershaw get in touch with Amazon and get this resolved, especially as Amazon is listed as a suggested source for their knives within the Kershaw FAQ pages.

The rest of the state shouldn't be subjected to New York City's draconian knife laws.

Most websites Do this aswell..Its just an extra precaution to cover there ass..One lost sale here and there is worth when compared to breaking laws etc etc.

Volund, the NYC DA is using his view of the NY State law when he states these are banned.....Therefore I can understand why they feel this way....He is wrong of course, but he is quoting NYS PL 265.00 as the basis for his actions......

Understood, but I don't live in NYC.... Therefore, their interpretation of the law should have no effect on me so long as I don't bring an assisted open knife into the 5 boroughs.

They're just covering their ass either way... can't exactly be mad at them for it. Everyone is starting to do it. Buy off eBay or something like that.

I think that Amazon just has a simple "yes or no" system based on State. They're not going to bother to distinguish by counties, city or Zip Code.

It would seem plauseable that Amazon has the computer power available to be able to distinguish between the zip codes that are legal vs. those which are not.

What Amazon does not have is a crystal ball to see when another NYState DA is going to decide to join NYCity in collecting a massive fine on a deep-pocket dealer.

True, looks like many pure knife shops have adopted the same policy. Spyderco, Emerson, and other manufacturers are following suit. Bad for the residents, good for the companies.

I wonder how many people, who feel it is unfair of these stores to refuse to sell to New York, themselves refuse to sell to overseas buyers, or even to Canadians?

After all, it is more trouble, and the knives may be lost ... right?

I agree..
