S30V full tapered tang hunter just completed. Really happy with the way the Amber Stag scales worked out. The scales have black liners and the guard is 416. Blade is hollow ground and satin finished. I really like it, hope you do too.

Makes natural stag look like a poor cousin. :D

Totally one of my favorite styles of skinner. I love the design with the small pins on the stag handle. Very nice!

I,m A fan of amber stag. Where did you find it over there?
great knife!

Yep that amber stag is hot, so is the rest of it. From what I've seen of your latest works Peter, you are going to have a very empty table at the Knifemakers Guild show. :)
Cheers Keith

Thanks for the comments everyone. Just mellowing out after the first day of the Australian Guild Show. This knife sold in the first few minutes of the show. Room was packed and sales seemed steady from what I saw.

Bruce I wish it were that easy, can't get anything like this here. Got it from Culpepper's, most of the materials we use down here are shipped from the States. Try paying Air freight on steel if you want to see you wallet bleed.

I'm a huge fan of nice Amber Stag as well.
Have you guys ever seen real old amber stag that's ambered over years like found on quite a few antique knives in books like "The Antique Bowie Knife Book" or "The Bowie Knife"

Beautiful knives Peter, thanks for sharing them.

Peter, I'm not surprised in the least that it sold quickly.
Yes Culpeppers is the only place here as well. They hold a patent on the process but sometimes it takes months to get a special batch back from them. I though maybe you had another supplier.
Did our old friend Bruce Barnette make it to the show? Have any other pictures of knives there?

Quite a few makers didn't make it this year and Bruce was one of them. Some pics have been posted on the "Australian Blade Forums" but they are not the greatest quality. Some makers posted better photos under the "knifemakers" section. I'd give you a link if I knew how.

Bruce we do have Sambar deer running wild in the hills of eastern Victoria and southern New South Wales In the high country. You can find cast antlers or if you are good enough , shoot one. There is plenty of excellent quality stag but of course if we wanted to dye it we would have to send it to Culpeppers. So most of our stag is natural but it is possible to get natural Sambar stag with a hint of amber in them. I would say it would also be perfectly legal to export it from Australia to the US , as they are far from endangered here.
Well done to Pete on the knife as it won best hunter at our show.
Cheers Adam

Very nice! I'm a sucker for amber stag as well. It took me awhile to notice that there was a blade attached to that beautiful handle and what a nice blade it is. :)

Hi Adam, Hey if you have any extra natural stag let me know. I,m always on the prowl for some premium rounds so I can cut my own scales.

Peter, sorry to derail your thread temporarily.

Mr. Parker,

I noticed that you were in a thread regarding Amber stag that we produce here stateside. As I was reading, you mentioned something about Sambar being available in Australia. I have been casting my net of late in NZ and Pakistan as well as a bit in your neck of the woods. I am looking for someone to gather and collect Sambar antler as large a full containers. If this is something you would have interest in let me know. I would have no problem "paying as you collect" if you have any interest. Let me know your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Joe Culpepper
